What is a good housing neighborhood around Fort Hood, TX (within 30 mins drive)?

I am projected for Fort Hood upon commissioning as a 2LT (70B AOC). Prior enlisted but was never stationed at Hood. I’m trying to find a safe and good neighborhood for my family in the vicinity. Doesn’t have to be close to the base. Any recommendations will be appreciated.
I’ve read earlier threads on this but wanted to get some more insights.

Harker Heights has some nice neighborhoods, at least when I retired almost 3 years ago!

I just got to fort hood myself 2 weeks ago, I googled Realtor companies in the area and looked at the vacancies each company has and found a good house (duplex) for a great price in a great neighborhood 10-15 mins away from post.

You essentially have Killeen and Copperas Cove. I believe Killeen is right outside the gate and Copperas Cove a few minutes drive to the gate. I left Ft Hood in 2002, and the majority of the folks felt Copperas Cove was better, in a large part due to safety.

Fort Hood’s new on-post housing area is pretty nice. If not try the Clear Creek area all the way down to the airport and the Harker Heights area. Good luck to you

Closer down by the airport there is up and coming houses. Plenty for rent and sale, and the neighborhood is very nice.

There is Harker Heights and Copperas Cove. But look into the Bridgewood subdivision in Killeen. Its right down the street from the Walmart of Stan Schleuter and its right off of Clear Creek

Harker Heights and Copperas Cove are both nice areas, the on post housing is also very nice, drove past the officer housing earlier this week and they look fairly new for the most part. Most of the post is going through renovations, i hear schools are pretty nice on post. Personally i would stay away from the areas closer to the gates because the area is a little rough, but doing research never hurts.
