What is a reserve/national guard drill weekend like for an officer transferring from active duty in a EN, CA, PO, or LG unit (seattle area)?

Depends on the unit. I was in super organized ones which meant that the drill weekends were planned and executed well and I've been in other extremes. It's going to be what you make of it and remember you can always help make it better. I would plan on it not being just weekends though and realize that you will likely have teleconferences during the month

It depends on any factors, but NG MTOE should have almost a year and a half on advance. I have my schedule through FY17. But, of course, everything is always subject to change

I agree with CPT Robinson, it depends on the unit, if they are an MTOE or TOE unit, if they have a perceived mission, and if the command has it's act together and doesn't operate entirely on the "Good ol' Boy" system. I would look at CA... they are always going on missions in support of humanitarian operations OCONUS.

MSgt Jon Adams - The Soldier was asking what type of unit, not what state. That is, unless you know a state that has the abbreviation of EN or PO.

MSgt Jon Adams - LOL my CA unit was so jacked, the 426th CA Bn in upland that they had airborne ops almost every month, they had moNey for airborne, air assault and my CATA-A sergeant got soldier of the CACOM(SFC Trojanowski) and he got his wish to go to Ranger School and later, after he graduated, he moved to be a Warrant in Aviation. Ok, I have not been there since mid-2011. I did get $1) grand to stay as a CA officer in 2008. I broke my ankle so i went to a non-airborne CA unit at 351 CACOM. CA units pay up to $300 in travel expenses. I found a home at my unit, the 75th TC as an OC/T and it was easier to get promoted to MAJOR since the team leaders are all LTC and the Branch Directors are COL.
CA is not perfect but I have never seen a special ops unit that was not combat arms have so much opportunity for missions, exercises outside my current unit in the USAR.

It seems like CA does a lot of active orders and TDY. Does that make it difficult to work full-time in a civilian career?

It can be difficult, but if you are upfront with your employer, you should be good to go. My job is very understanding, but I try my best to keep them in the loop so that when I do have to leave for training, it is not a surprise to anyone.
