If you have the drive and motivation I would say go with the Marines. If you want to make the best of your service experience I would suggest preparing for the tests (depending on your carrier path) and get your HS, college credits or degree in order. Plenty of great opportunities with any service but it can depend on service needs and/or priorities of filling open slots. The higher your scores the better the opportunities.. Best of luck! The Marines and Army have different missions and capabilities. The Marines are more of a fast attack amphibious branch with some ability to do prolonged land operations. The Army is meant for sustained ground operations and is structured for that role. Each can in a pinch fulfill the others missions, but it's not usually ideal. Marines typically are more disciplined on duty, but that varies depending on the unit culture. I suggest that you do some research from unbiased sources as most of us will be biased towards our own branches. Having served in the Marine Corp from 59-63 and the Army from 63-66. I can tell you, what is it you are looking for? I was in an ammo company in both the Marines and Army. The Marines have a different mission than the army. From my experience, the marine corp is more disciplined, takes a longer time in grade to make rank. Since it is a smaller service it is more selective in picking its recruits, We are the spearhead of any hostilities. We are on standby more often. The Army is more laid back less discipline . Rank is faster. Certain units are Elite. Army wears shoulder Patches Marines don't. Every Marine is Elite The EGA is their badge of honor. In combat I would rather be in the corp. Every Marine is a Rifleman. They all get Infantry training. In the army your MOS comes first. Your not required to be an infantryman. Marines can land on foreign soil to protect American Lives and property, without declaring war. I'm a prior service Marine who is now a CW2 in the Army National Guard. I can tell that there are things the Marines do well and not so well - the same can be said for the Army. The Marines by far have the best uniforms. To answer your question though, I think the Marines are the better service. There are many different reasons but for the most part, the Army has way to many masters (to many chiefs and not enough Indians). As a Platoon Sergeant in the Marines, I had oversight and implement my PL's guidance without having to worry about his bosses guidance. In the Army, it's the total opposite. One huge problem with the Army that drives me crazy is their approach to any problem - just throw large amounts of people at it and eventually, it will fix itself.
