I was curious if anyone that has gone through recently could tell me what the course is like or what it’s like for prior service? The few people I’ve talked to all went through a while ago or before Drill Sergeants came in.
Thanks! What is CBRN AIT like? 2020-05-18T21:43:25-04:00 SPC Private RallyPoint Member 5908047

Hello
I’m prior service that re-enlisted and was given CBRN as my only option. I don't know if you will be inserted into one of entry level classes or be part of some reclass group, and I don't know what that could mean as far as having your day-to-day life controlled by Brown Rounds.

As far as your education: CBRN early warning and reporting system, CBRN reports, basic decontamination operations (like how to set up a decon lane and the various types of decon), basic CBRN company level ops: expectations for setting up and training recon and decon teams, CBRN room (mask maintenance, fitting, fit tests, etc.) You will get a basic hands on of all the various detection equipment and decon equipment. You will learn MOPP levels and get to be intimate with JSLIST. You will get a basic introduction to Radiological and Nuclear science. You will get training on hazard plotting and prediction.

When I went through, there was a field ex where you practiced some of these skills in a field environment. I don't know if that is done any more. We were teamed up with BNCOC (ALC) students for our FTX and worked under their tutelage and guidance. (unfortunately that training plan ended many years ago...I think it should return because it helps the NCO's practice planning and running OPS). You will get a chance to visit the Chemical Defense Training Facility and conduct training in live agent conditions in MOPP 4. It has been a graduation requirement at all the other PME levels so I bet it is for AIT as well. You may get a chance to learn about setting up and operating a mask confidence chamber (gas chamber), but the last new Soldier I talked to did not know anything about how to run a chamber, so maybe not.

We had weekends off if we maintained a good GPA and were good on PT test and did not show a crappy 'tude to the DS.

Go here for more info (look under courses menu):
https://home.army.mil/wood/index.php/units-tenants/USACBRNS

U.S. Army CBRN School :: FORT LEONARD WOOD

U.S. Army CBRN School

Response by 1SG Private RallyPoint Member made May 19 at 2020 3:38 AM 2020-05-19T03:38:31-04:00 2020-05-19T03:38:31-04:00 SGT(P) Private RallyPoint Member 5999085

It depends who your drill sergeants are; that's the truth. I had good drill sergeants, who gave us a great deal of leniency - but it allowed most of us to make a good transition to real Army life. But the rest of the army doesn't know, look at it this way the only experience infantry has with cbrn is mopp gear and the gas chamber. So a lot of hate and discontent could come your way. And here is a real viewpoint would you really wanna know all the nasty chem bio rad agents are out there?. Probably not, so most people don't have positive thoughts when it comes to cbrn.
