SGT W. Slagle I personally carry a knife on me everywhere. Never know when you will need one, realistically. At home I have an array of knives, daggers, swords and guns. And I know how to use them all. Oh and I don't fire warning shots.... :D

PO1 (Join to see) Army Strong taught me a lot. Stationed in Germany you were Not allowed to have a weapon. But ee had empty mags in our M-16 in the field. Yes I had 3 knives there they only knew about 1

PO1 (Join to see) - Load? You're carrying an unloaded weapon? You may as well be carrying around a baseball bat.

I have a H&K USP .45, a Beretta 92FS, a pump, and Michelle my trusty Sig Saur AR-15. Should someone decide to break in, I know for a fact I have more ammo than they have time left on earth. To carry, I like both of my handguns, with a slight edge to the 92FS. It's small, light, easier to conceal if I choose to go that way. The .45 gets attention but it's heavy and I like my pants ON my waist, not hanging down like their sagging.

MAJ Alan Montgomery - Commands, orders or warnings are not what I consider conversation, and improve your legal standing: “To whomever is in my house, LEAVE. I am armed and will shoot you. The police have been called and are on their way. If you leave now you might escape”, or to the perp who lay down, “Don’t look at me, look away. Get on your stomach. Cross your legs. Arms spread wide”, etc.

I mostly agree with what you have to say about beating the rap and not the ride (I.e. talking to police) but I firmly believe in the Mas Ayoob recommendations regarding this. Be the first to call 911. When the police arrive identify yourself as the victim and that you will sign a complaint. “I was in fear for my life and used my gun in self defense. The evidence is here, the witnesses are there. I will cooperate fully later, but at this point I am exercising my right to remain silent until I have talked to my lawyer.” Then shut up. And train your family on how this works also.

MAJ Alan Montgomery - Seconded. Warning shots are post-facto excuses for missed shots.

MAJ Alan Montgomery - If you carry, you need protection from USCCA (https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/) or some similar agency.

No one can get past my 2 attack cats. If they do, they have to get past my ninja wife.

I have the same set-up. However, I can claim only one as an attack cat and well the wife... she acknowledges she is dead weight in the assault.

LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow - I had one of those attack cats once. I didn't know it till one day somebody snuck up behind me while I had my head in the Trunk of the car. All I can say is damn it was bloody.

I can vouch for the effectiveness of a ninja wife. For myself, my preferred home defense weapon is a steel cane with a hooked/sharp handle that is effective at a bit over arms reach. If you are in my home, you are likely to be within arm's reach or damned close to it. I do have other weapons, of course, but I like the up close and personal touch.
