What is it like being a 13R: Field Artillery Firefinder Radar Operator?

Im currently in the process of reclassing to a 13R. Does anyone have any information on what the job's like? Anything relevant to the MOS is greatly appreciated.

Radar isn’t bad at all once your amass the knowledge and experience you need and build cohesion with your team you will enjoy it. We do spend a lot of time in the field though. Sometime a few days some times a few weeks.

It really depends on what radar you get placed on. But pretty much once you have it set up they will run on their own, you just have to keep an eye on it, it is a very easy job once you get comfortable with what you're doing, and learn the job

Dude it sucks trust me, if I were you I’d pick a job that is actually relevant and will help you on the outside Incase you decide to get out. All you’ll do is be detail bitch for 1sgt and the commander and they’ll treat your platoon like shit

If I had it to do over again I would’ve picked something else.... biomed equip tech, intel, medical... something else directly transferable in to a civilian occupation and that required a security clearance preferably Top Secret.....

I had a blast, i mean it was always peaches and cream, but with my radar knowledge and background i make almost 70K a year

Wow some angery answers. I was 13r10 ×5 back in the day was a mos had to fight to get into off course I served in the late 1980's threw 1990's.
The tpq-37 was just coming into it own. I believe the current unit the 50 are easy to setup and fix compared to them. We had companies all over trying to hire you when you EOS . it was one of the few mos that you didn't need the impossible 999 points for promotions . I temporarily duties all over world as we sold units to allies . it was best time of my life.
