I know they keep our office seperate but are our qurters seperate too? What is it like being an Inspector General on a deployment to Kuwait? 2023-10-19T07:48:29-04:00 SFC Private RallyPoint Member 8519848

I've been fortunate to be asked to join the IG team for our deployment, what's it like on deployment? Units have their own billets and IG usually has its own workspace but you should be billeted in rank appropriate accommodations within your units allotted facilities. As an extension of the commander, the IG is frequently referred to as their eyes, ears, and conscience. Being on the IG team is an important part of ensuring the command maintains a healthy state of readiness, discipline, morale, and esprit de corps (and more). In other words, the tangible and intangibles that will affect the command in accomplishing its mission as efficiently and effectively as possible.

One of the core functions of the IG office is providing assistance to Soldiers on matters affecting their health, welfare, and personal readiness. These assistance requests often come in the form of a complaint/grievance or allegation against a specific individual.

The separate office locations comes from the IG having a duty to protect to the maximum extent possible the personal identity of a complainant, witness, or any other individual providing information to the IG.

Unless there was an expectation of conducting official duties at your quarters or that you would be required to bring/store information in your quarters that could compromise that confidentiality, there is no need to have seperate quarters.

As to "what's it like on deployment?", the core job functions of the IG will remain the same - Assistance, Inspections, and Investigations and providing teaching and training for unit personnel at all levels on current Army policy and doctrine (usually accomplished as a part of the first three functions).

If you're asking "will that change on deployment", the answer is no. However, no IG is like the rest, just as no unit is a clone of another unit. You could be in a situation where morale took a hit due to an incident or another where there are issues with some leadership.
