I feel like who I am as a young enlisted, well disciplined hard working soldier that the tab shouldn't depict who I am. No disrespect to the tab because I want to go and earn it, but I feel like we put too much weight on it. I know leaders with the tab and they actually have not been that senior enlisted role model that they should be. For those that have the Ranger Tab is way to show you have been pushed to extreme limits and succeeded. It is the best leadership school for tactical operations in the Army. You will learn more about yourself than anything else while there. I came out a much better leader.

It is a school for elite soldiers. So those that complete should be considered a bit more elite. That is the name of the game. It is the same way how if you are a Doctor. People look at you different. Nothing is wrong with those that don't have but for those that do it means something. Also, if I were to go another Ranger and deploy with I would know that he and I went through the same thing and can handle it.

If you want to push yourself go to Ranger School but don't blame the system for showing favoritism for those that have been.

If you go to the 75th you will see hardships until you go to Ranger school. That is just how it is. I don't think it is the same in the 82nd. But if you have it then you will see a difference. Tabs don't make good soldiers, but they are prerequisites (or highly encouraged) for certain positions in the Army. You can't be a Special Forces soldier without a Special Forces tab and you probably won't fair very well in Ranger BN as an infantryman without a Ranger tab. However, just because you get a tab doesn't mean you're awesome. They're are plenty of crap soldiers with all the tabs and badges you could imagine. There is also a difference between having Ranger tab and being a Ranger in Regiment...I'm neither, but have worked with plenty of guys who pointed this out - just ask a Ranger from Regiment.

You're a young soldier, if you want it, go get it. Until you earn your tab you will be a second class citizen in that unit. From my experience and understanding the 75th sends PFCs after much preparation. As an 11B SPC without a tab you will be at a disadvantage as compared to other MOSs. I went to Airborne school with a CBERNE NCO who had passed RIP (the previous assessment and selection program) but he was scheduled for Ranger school. Ranger school was the most difficult thing I have done in the military including combat. You have to show up mentally and physically prepared and wanting it more than anything or you will not make it past the first week. My advice is to speak with the 75th Regiment recruiters if you haven't already; [login to see] . The tab just means i'll now treat you like a ranger, not a child.

As an 11B, if you do not have a Ranger tab you are a "private" forever, period. If you enjoy having the responsibilities as a private than there ya go. Being a private in the Regiment is one of the worst experiences you can have. This is done on purpose to motivate you to go to school. Looking at your time in, they will want to send you to Ranger school immediately. Member. You. Can’t even entertain those thoughts IF you ever plan to succeed in serving there. All the hurdles and hardships are inexorably linked with Living the scroll and earning the tab. To pick at it and dissect like so many “haters” that have never been ,nor never will be part of one of the greatest families I’ve ever known , to pick and dissect is a symptom of the “sour grapes syndrome “ . There is no room in the Ranger heart for anything but total commitment love and respect for all his Ranger brothers no matter what scroll no matter tabbed or not. I’ve linked up with fellow Ranger buddies I haven’t seen in decades and my wife commented that it was an amazing transformation to see . It was if we were finishing a conversation we had just been discussing the day before ! The sense of family and unwavering love and sacrifice is impossible to explain to someone outside “the life” and to all those who have lived or are living “the life” no explanation is ever needed.
You need to immediately reassess your decision making paradigm if you are allowing head space for such thoughts.
