I know that EVERYTHING is up in the air with covid-19 right now so I'm aware that much is subject to change.
I've doing a ton of thinking and weighing options over the past few weeks/months. I have as of now decided on joining the Army as a 17C Cyber Operations Specialist. I am trying to get a feel for what is coming in my life as I know that there will be a tremendous amount of hard work and learning that I will be going through.
Recently I have seen that AIT for 17Cs has been cut from 45 weeks to 6 months and the first "section" was removed. Is this a true statement? And if so how does that change the pipeline for me moving forward?
I also was wondering how AIT for cyber compares to other branches? Is it more akin to AF tech school given the subject matter of the job? Or do you grunt it out for 6-12 months just like BCT? Either is fine... But obviously it would be nice to not feel like you're going through Basic for a year. Thank you all and I appreciate any advice and guidance, especially if you're already doing AIT or working in the MOS!

I don't know much about any of that, but I can tell you is that you won't have to "grunt it out" like BCT; that'll be OSUT through combat MOS' like 19D, 11B, etc. For other jobs, AIT is kinda like going to college; you get a room shared with a few other people, you go class, and of course PT, to name a few big pieces.

I too would like to know about this as my son was just told there will not be any open slots for 17C due to AIT school problems by his recruiter. The story sounded like BS to me.

Let me know. My son went down to MEPS after passing Cyber test and physical and told no slots available. I’m no spring chicken and told him to wait. However a recruiter came across with some BS saying it would be 2-3 years until they had the school up and running. That is obviously BS. Connor Reese

Not necessarily BS but probably a little shorter than 2-3 years. It’s hard to know though. 17C is EXTREMELY short slotted and schools are few and far between. SSG Jim Earnest

I have a hard time believing the US Army would close an MOS training school for two years to train/ certify instructors. The Army can be FUBAR, but that is ridiculous. I can’t even see them doing that for a non critical MOS AIT. SGT (Join to see)

My son ended up joining the Navy and getting a CTN position contract instead. No reason to wait that long for an answer. Same same for the most part and he is probably better suited in the Navy.
