What is military bearing? How important is it? And how can we as Veterans teach others the importance of it in other life instances?

With regards to the "empty gesture protesting" that is occurring around the country with Clinton supporters. How would military bearing be useful in these situations or before they arise?

Military bearing involves accepting situations that we don't like, but have to deal with them anyway. I understand the feelings of Clinton supporters, but those involved in violence and destruction are truly hurting their own cause. They need to suck it up and make the best of a bad situation. The world will not end.

I don't think this is such a good idea. This country is more colorful and exciting if we embrace diversity of opinion vs fighting against it. While I do not like the protests either....we should let them happen as long as they are not violent. Let the people decide the merits of the protests. I have faith in that still.

Military bearing is remembering that respect goes up and comes down and being professional isn't enough. Showing honor and respect to the rank is equally important as showing honor and respect to the person

take a cue from the Brits and have a "stiff upper lip". They've won and few and lost a few over the years and had a country 5x longer than we have. nobody likes a sore loser of a bad winner. notice the scoreboard, salute the CiC and move out.

In my opinion military bearing is maintaining professional attitude and demeanor at all times when dealing with all service members of all ranks. It means that you defer to higher rank and remain respectful to the person and the position while performing the tasks asked of you, which help contribute to overall mission accomplishment. We may not understand or like all tasks that we are assigned but as a matter of respect and tradition we perform the task to the best of our ability provided that it is not illegal. At lower ranks we may not be privy to or even grasp the concept that is the overall tactical picture of what the unit and higher echelons are attempting to achieve. Time often doesn't allow for a thorough explanation and military bearing allows us to buckle down and complete the task promptly.

Military bearing is part and parcel with a military way of life. Most civilians would not get it. Failure to maintain military bearing has consequences. You can discharge a member of the military for lack of military bearing. With no consequences be them good or bad most of the nonmilitary I know would not even consider changing the way they act. Leave military bearing where it belongs, in the military.

Military bearing is how one comports or presents themself to others in different situations. It is something you learn.
Learn from others, what they do that is effective and what is ineffective. It is physical posture, confidence in tone of voice, pace of speaking words, clarity in messaging.
Iin my Army experience, I tried to follow the examples of some senior NCOs and officers. The officers were usually captains, majors and a lieutenant colonel.
The LTC retired a Lieutenant General. LTG James E. Freeze.
