What is the age limit for rejoining the USAR if you have 17 years prior service?

I want to complete my 20 years and a sense acomplisment, I want straight forward or at least guidence in the tight direction.

A quick google search indicates that the age limit is 42, though I will be upfront and admit I have not dived into the regs to be sure that's accurate. Google has lied to me before.

I'd guess that your best resource on this matter is going to be AR 601-210 which covers Regular Army and Reserve enlistments. I wish you the best of luck in finding a way to hit your 20.

First, talk to a recruiter or career counselor. I never trust that what I know isn't out of date....daily.

That said, the maximum age for non-prior service is 35.

For prior service, subtract your years of prior service from your age. If the result is 35 or under, you are golden.

I believe that there is also a requirement that you must be able to complete a total of 20 good years for retirement before age 60, as well as a hard ceiling of 57.

The correct answer is you can join as long as you can retire with 20 years of service prior to age 60. This is of course providing you are otherwise qualified. We subtract your years of service from your age and as long as you can hit 20 before 60 you are okay.

I was a Prior service Marine with 11 years of active duty,3 years of USMCR and 2 years of National Guard service. I left for 7 years and at age 40 enlisted in the Army Guard where I retired medically with a total of 24 years of service. I too needed to to finish what I started. So glad I did. I now have been retired from an active duty status for 3 years. You won't regret it if you return. Good luck to you sir !!
