What is the best branch, is there one?

The common argument between people in different branches, "my branch is the best" What do you think? I think it's ridiculous that people say and argue that their branch is better or the best. It's usually us a.k.a the young ones that do it but I just think it's ridiculous. No branch is better than another. A navy recruiter talked to me once. Im not a huge fan of the navy but i like what he said to me. "Why not navy?" When i told him I wasnt interested in the navy he said" that's okay, we're all part of the united states military and we all work together to reach our goals." To me he represented the navy well and the military well by saying that. So what do you think? Discuss.

I think it really depends on what you want to do.
Play with the tippy-top high-tec toys - Air Force
Travel the world and see exotic places - Navy
Go to strange places and do strange things - Army
What was the question? - Marines

I think this question will open up a can of worms since we loveeee poking fun at our sister services. :)

Obviously, Air Force is the best. Kidding, I was in the Army for my first 5 years. They trained me, groomed me in my formative years. I transferred to the Air Force and continue to have totally different experiences.

Neither was "better or worse", they just differed and made me the leader that I am today. It truly depends on the person. I always say it is as individual as a pillow.

Well, you started out making the correct choice - Army. You have more career options in the Army than in all other branches combined. (Just stack the MOS directories beside each other to prove the point).

Now, don't think branch, think MOS...

If you want to climb the ranks in the Army, you want a combat arms MOS - Infantry, Armor, or Artillery.

If you want a technical education to prepare you for a technical career after the Army, look at any MOS relating to Signal or Chemical Corps.

Law enforcement - Military Police.

Legal/Paralegal - Judge Advocate.

No, I can't list them all. Talk to your recruiter...

Best branch for a certain task?
Best branch to advance your career goals?
Best branch to get to do this, or that?
Lots of possible different answers. Best possible branch for one person might be the absolute worst for another.

Obviously, which branch is best is different for different people. What do you want to do? What do you want to get out of your service? Is school a goal? etc etc.

I feel that our fine Navy Recruiter represented us well. We each have our strengths and weaknesses but let me just leave this right here..... ;)

But on a more serious note, at the end of the day we are one big family. We can pick on each other but no one better try and pick on our own. I once read a story (and now it is going to bug me because I cannot find it) but it took all the branches and made them into siblings in one family. It broke down the different personalities of each branch and it was so funny because it was so true. However, the take away was that we all make each other better in the end and that we ARE all apart of something bigger and better than ourselves.

I have been Army my whole career. Considered Navy before I joined the Army and at one point, considered doing time in all the branches- just because. I agree though with the others. We give the other branches crap because we can and in one aspect, it's a morale thing. But I don't think one is any better than the others. That's kind of like sayin that one MOS is better than another. Depends on what you want to do and that you make the best of whichever you choose

Hi Hunter,

A little background: 6 years of my career was spent working joint-service signals intelligence collection, analysis and formulation of theater operations and contingency plans. I have a fairly broad understanding of the synergy of all services working together.

I wouldn't say any one service is better than the other. What I would say is that there are definite differences in the lives and lifestyle you lead depending on the service you choose.

All in all though, this type of arguing is pointless. Each service performs a multitude of incredibly important functions. We could not be the dominant military planet on earth without the efforts of each branch.

And a final answer to your question... AIR FORCE!! No one comes close!

You are right while each of us thinks that our branch of service is the best ( nothing wrong with pride in what you do) the vast majority respect other services more than anyone can imagine. While there is plenty of poking and jibing at other branches to include myself each member knows that each branches contributions to the overall mission completion are jnvaluable. So my saying to those who get ruffled by the joking and such is calm down and think about what happens when we go to war there isn't the huge gap that there is during peace time situations and we blend as the team we are meant to be.

Even though we all say that "my branch is the best" the fact is that each individual branch is best at what they do. To me there is no one branch that is the best over the others. Now with that said, we all know the Navy is the best branch, ask Army (0-13) against Navy! LOL!

The Marine Corps is the best.
The normal response to this is "Best at what?" We all have different missions and they each of strengths and weaknesses. This is true some are better at certain missions than others. Each service can do something better than the others, and all of them can do something (at least one thing) better than mine. But one organization has no unique function: The Marine Corps. The army can and has conducted amphibious landings, expeditionary and light infantry combat. The navy can conduct amphibious special operations. The Air Force can conduct close air support. But we do it better. Everything we do, we do better than anyone else. If we didn't we would cease to exist because we would not be wanted.

Or, put another way by Gen Krulak:
“The United States does not need a Marine Corps mainly because she has a fine modern Army and a vigorous Air Force. . . . We [the Marine Corps] exist today—we flourish today—not because of what we know we are, or what we know we can do, but because of what the grassroots of our country believes we are and believes we can do.”

Which one is best? That depends, what do you need done?

Control the seas? The US Navy is the best at that.
Control the ground? The US Army is best at that.
Take over an area and clear out the enemy? The US Marines are the best at that.
Set up AFN and X-Box tournaments? AIR FORCE baby!

It's all what you want out of it. If you want to be a Seal then you should go to the Navy. If you want to be a Ranger than you should join the Army. If you want take a break then the Air Force is there for you.

I like all the branches of the Armed Forces all are powerful and have their assigned task and purpose. I devoted over 25 years to the Army (shoot move and communicate). Duty Honor Country. Retired but still serving!

Well one day, in the future, when we are all flying around in spacecraft bringing Freedom to outlying worlds, I think the Navy and Marines have it pretty much cornered. The Army will turn into a glorified police force for the United World Federation, or whatever it will be called. I mean let's look at the big picture here. You can't go around calling it Space Army. That's just silly. Now Space Marines, that has a nice ring to it. Just saying.
