What is the best, worst advice you've ever received from an unqualified source?

This video really got me thinking -- I always get my business knowledge from news anchors... Amazon is more successful in retail sales than Walmart due to their Sex Toy sales. Boom. This anchor just stated what we were all thinking.

But what is the worst information, or advice that you have ever received. Could be military, or non-military related. But we have all had that friend, uncle, coworker, customer, etc. who has given you the WORST advice, or just horrible reasoning for something...

I was once told by someone (one of my first NCOs) that they were on a diet, while they were eating a McDonalds value meal, and they were eating fries because that's how they get their "starch" that they need... I was a 19 year old private at the time and knew that, what I had just heard was perhaps one of the most idiotic things I could, and would ever hear... 15 years later and it still stands and one of the dumbest, "serious" things someone told me...

I was a very young, impressionable Airman (E-3 I think) and was returning to the states from GE. I took advantage of the Military Car sales and bought a 1988 Jeep - brand new (while I was still there). I got the Jeep about 3 mo before I had to come back. I was super excited and when I asked my supervisor (an E-7 who never liked me) to "come check it out", he told me that I should drive it really hard for the first 1000 miles to "break it in".
He was serious - but I later learned that he knew what he was doing and he was deliberately trying to sabotage my new car! He was a real jack-wagon!

My youth pastor once told me "I believe Satan is leading you down the path to join the military." His efforts to convince me not to join just helped me determine he was an idiot and made me want to join more. Please tell me again how your relationship with God means that you can advise me on what God is telling me to do with my life.

Mine kind of goes along the same lines as yours.

I was working out in the ship's gym one night and there was this guy who had some pretty big arms but also a pretty big gut. His goal was to gain size, so he was eating extra calories. Which in theory is perfect. But the way body builders and other types to lift and eat to bulk up eat lean proteins like chicken and lean ground beef. His source of calories? Candy bars and cheeseburgers. "I have to eat 5-6 cheeseburgers and candy bars every day to maintain my weight of 215 pounds." He honestly believed that his huge gut was all muscle.

Shortly after I left the Army I got a job as an assistant started at a horse racing track. Part of my job was training young, green horses to enter and stand in the starting gate. A two year old thoroughbred I was working with panicked each time the front doors were closed. He exploded through the closed doors and took off down the track. My boss decided someone should stand in front of the horse in the gate and this would prevent the horse from blowing out of the gate teach him to stand still. Since I was the FNG I was selected to hold the horse. Now, none of us who worked with horses thought this was such a good idea. However, keeping this job was important to me and arguing with this man was not the way to keep my job. So, as soon as the front doors snapped shut, the poor horse reared up and bolted forward. Fortunately, as the horse reared I was able to wrap my arms around his neck. The horse and I crashed through the gate and I found myself hanging under the neck of a 1500 pound bundle of panicked muscle flying down the track at about 30 mph. After a few hundred yards the horse slowed down and finally stopped. I learned, that day, that following orders from idiots is never a good idea.
