SSgt Private RallyPoint Member has it right. It's "green" because it's primarily a Marine term. Look up Terminal Lance cartoons and search for Green Wennie. You'll get the idea.

Illustration: enlisted members must apply for leave. Leave must be approved at the company or squadron level. During holiday seasons (Thanksgiving, Christmas) service members like to take leave and go home, often requiring purchase of airline tickets. The unit headquarters staff delays approving leaves to ensure an adequate number of enlisted are on hand to carry out missions during the holiday period. This delay causes junior enlisted members to wait to buy airline tickets until inside the 14-day in advance window when tickets are cheaper. The Green Wennie strikes!

PV2 J M I heard that term used a time or two. It would be used when someone was unhappy with their current task, like cleaning the head, picking up cigarette butts, etc. Below are more expressions.

Any time the Corps sticks it to you, the mythical "Big Green Weenie" was involved some how, some way. It is an all knowing force that can secure liberty, extend field day, cause an inspection, extend a mission, cause a pay issue, etc. etc. etc. Marines specialize in drawing this creature on walls, note pads, each others face (if you pass out first) etc. The big green weenie will get you. It is not an if, only a when, how many times and how bad will they be.

It is primarily used in the Army and USMC to imply that you're being screwed over by the military.

The guy at your school in the post you wrote above about saying the USMC is trash and one of the worst branches, etc. THERE'S YOUR ANSWER RIGHT THERE.... Sorry but true! All Military Branches Matter and all are equally essential!! THEY ARE ALL THE VERY BEST, WELL-TRAINED MILITARY IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!!
