What is the biggest barriers for prior service members trying to join another branch of service?

From a rumour I was told, if you decide to join another branch you have to go through that branch's basic training again unless you went to Marine Corp basic training?

I had real problems with the Army (National Guard) accepting my Navy NEC and "C" schools. Apparently the Army does not recognize the Navy's Hospital Corps School, Field Medical Service School, Independent Duty Corpsman School, and Aviation Medicine Specialist School. It took almost a year for my credentials to be verified and accepted.

It completely depends on the people you know and what branch you are going to. As a NG member it took me maybe a month to finish the process to go active duty. but all of my higher ups were family friends and so my paperwork was fast. a friend of mine is still trying to go active from the guard and it has been over a year.

especially if you have a break in service I would have to say lost records!!!!!
