With everything from attempted suicide at basic training by buffer cord to an MP telling a general officer not to confuse his rank with the MP's authority, I am curious to know what are the craziest military urban legends everyone has heard. Did the buffer incident rwally ever happen in anyone's actual cycle?

In Iraq 2005 - the new ACU pattern is going to be better than the desert camo pattern.

The MP thing actually happened in front of me.. A Reserve Unit was assigned to the FLW MP's shortly after 9/11 I was patrol sup. When I got a call that the Post Commander, a MJ, had been stopped by a SPC/E-4 .. I arrived and was standing between the 2 vehicles when I hear.. No Sir.. You will wait here until I finish with your citation, then you may proceed. When he got back to me I said, what the hell was that... Oh, the General said he was late for a briefing with the SecDef, that is why he was speeding.. I went up to the window, Saluted, and told the General that he may be on his way and we would come to his office at his convince to issue the speeding ticket.. He laughed, smiled, returned my Salute and left. Later that day he called myself and my SPC went to his office.. He received his citation for 55 mph in a 45 mph zone. Shook both of our hands and said.. Great job, and gave us both his coin. .. It could have went a whole different direction had he not been a Soldier first.

No, he can't. The only person who could do that is the provost marshal. Otherwise, no MP could cite or apprehend any officer, much less a general officer.

I must give kudos to the ARMY, they did this better than the USAF. I was law enforcement, and generals were gods. Could do what they wanted, if you had to deal with any officer had to call our shift commander: 01 or 02 and unless a major felony or obvious DUI, or they were real stupid, they would get out of it. Only on the flight line when it came to the rules of the red line and 2 man policy and "laden" aircraft did the pilots know that rank did not count. Many "birds" and "stars" have eaten pavement or snow and turn around and give an attaboy for upholding the protection of that which does not forgive if mishandled.

The Provost marshall works for the Post Commander and ONLY the PC .. The job of the PM is to uphold and enforce the SOP, rules and regulations that the PC has set forth. I have seen these SOP's change with different Commanders. i.e.: One PC wanted zero tolerance for speeding in a school zone.. the other PC said that a 3-4 mph over was acceptable due to speedometers not always accurate. and YES the PC can, at his discretion, relieve an MP on duty.. NOT LIKELY to happen but the PC does have the authority to do so.

I never had to call an officer to write an officer a ticket. Then again, I was never stupid enough to do more than salute and wish the Wing King a good day if I pulled him over, either, lol.

Takes an act of Congress to demote a SFC... not true.. it only takes the 1st General Officer in his chain of Command... PK

Point of Interest: In the Air Force, a Field Grade Article 15 can reduce an E-7, E-8 or E-9. It's the only service that allows this.

Also, ANY enlisted person can be administratively reduced in rank/rate.

SSG (Join to see) - is that your military myth? Cause a court martial will definitely demote an E-7.

SFC Stacy Harris - If it is going before the first General in the Chain of Command.. then it is either a CM or Art. going on..
