What Is The Current Environment For Medical Waivers for USAR? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-is-the-current-environment-for-medical-waivers-for-usar

Currently considering re-enlisting, but I have a major red flag medically that I know for a fact that will put me in the PDQ category. Long story short, I was in a wheelchair for 6 months due to a very rare condition. The official diagnosis was Idiopathic Transverse Myelitis. ICD-10 is G37.3.

this happened in Oct 2016 after I was separated and I have since made a full recovery. I am within height weight standards and have done a PFT on my own and could score a 270 on a bad day. I have been to two independent physicians, one is a neurologist, who have both cleared me of any signs or symptoms of the disorder. once in 2017, and again just 6 months ago.

I'm coming here because I have a pretty bad recruiter. I disclosed this info to him, and he told me to lie since there is only civilian records of it, which I refuse to do. I've tried looking up DODI standards and I can't find anything about waivers outside of DQ factors. He has absolutely no idea about my situation at all and haven't heard from him in a couple weeks about my inquiry, which is usually a sign that USAR isn't handing out many waivers.

The biggest thing for me is that I have a family to support. I would like to go back active duty for benefits, but I do not want to get my wife or I's hopes up only to get shot down. I enjoyed my time in the military, but it would not seriously hurt my feelings if I get denied, but I know how long this stuff takes and I'd rather not waste time on something that will end up being fruitless when I could be working towards something else.

Thanks for your time.
