Mine was when we hauled six regular cars up to Fallujah from Kuwait that had no motors in them. When we started downloading them at TQ I asked one of the marines what they were going to do with cars that had no engines. He replied, "use them for target practice."

Technically I nor my unit did not pull the load, but we did escort and provide security in a combat zone, though known IED laden roads, with a penchant for direct fire attacks as well.

The load we risked our lives for???? Stuffed toys ..we delivered two HEMETT trailers full of conex inserts filled with stuffed toys to two starving Iraqi villages.
I was not told what the load was, I assumed it was relief supplies as we had moved before, food, water, medicine. I was embarrassed when the load was dropped, the village elders opened the inserts and there was no food... I was literally asked the iraqi equivalent of "What the fuck is this, we can't eat this " My Terp was scared to tell me what they were saying thinking I was going to Kill them all and go home.......he saw me getting more and more pissed and mistook it for being mad at the villagers, when i was really pissed at the Pokemon errr, Polar Bear Battalion leadership that sent this crap. As we drove away, we watched a large bonfire consume the containers of toys.

My unit lost an entire shipment of sustainment rations that week as well... and had to be re ordered from the BN that we were tasked to. I dont think we ever figured out what happened to the HEMTT load of food ,,it was on the patrol base one day, and missing the next. Strange....

Several Flag Officers at once. They were only in Antarctica to try and pick up their Antarctic Service Medal. That's why they changed the criteria to include a time element. Total waste of a day when I could have been out on the ice blowing things up. Had the last laugh as that change was made before they showed up. The bigger "dumb" was their staffs not having the balls to tell them that wouldn't work. Always the people at the end of the world getting the shaft with this stuff.

There were many. However, my last trip with the LAARNG was to Montana to haul a bunch of inoperable equipment and motor vehicles all the way back to Louisiana. That never made any sense to me. A company convoy to haul junk thousands of miles?

Not the dumbest but certainly the strangest. This one time....at FT Irwin.....one night at our lager site, my unit is sitting there grillin it up and prepping for the upcoming "battle" when up comes walking two Marines....a PFC and a Lance Corporal.....turns out they were brand new to their unit (that was helping augment the OPFOR), and as part of their particular "initiation," as they told us the story, was that their platoon hog tied and blind folded them then drove them across the entire field of battle and told them to walk back and find the platoon. The poor souls had been walking all night when they came upon us. They were out of chow and almost out of water. So we fed them and resupplied their water. The next day we hauled them back to the general area of where their unit was, but before we could reach the destination, they asked us to stop so they could walk the rest of the way....which was about 5 miles out. My entire crew in the M113 was shaking out heads as we drove away.

An empty truck. I'm not Motor-T, but I got voluntold to drive a flatbed to pick up a bunch of gear for Marines returning from deployment. The problem was there was multiple miscommunications as to where the gear actually was, so I ended up driving from Point A to Point B back to Point A to Point C etc etc. I finally did pick up the gear... but damn it was frustrating that no one seemed to know where the truck was supposed to be.

SAND! That's right I hauled and was a member of my battalions convoy security team that escorted/drove dumptruck loads of sand in the middle of a desert. I realize there was a purpose to it being that it was used for concrete and had to be a certain grade. It is hard to see the importance when your being hit by IEDs constantly while escorting dump truck loads of sand across a desert.

2 of our guys, had to haul a "load" of ammo to fob hammer. They picked up 1 pallet. Strapped to the pallet was 1 can of ammo. Inside the can was 5.56MM blanks. This was in '09. Right out route Irish.

I had to fill 55 gal drums with crude oil. In Somalia. So they can spread it on the dirt road to keep dust down. Try to get that off the underside of a 5ton. Ya and the pump nozzle didn't have a switch to turn it off when you went to fill the other drums

I was assigned to our BDE HQ's in Pirmesans Germany for the Brigade FTX. A 5 ton trailer loaded full of chow for a mess hall, plus beer fest tables and benches, so the BDE HQ people didn't have to sit on the ground. We couldn't get all the fest tables on one trailer. Had to get a second one.I told the mess sergeant they should go to the field like the rest of us. He agreed, but, God forbid a one star General sitting on the ground. Unheard of.

Didn’t end up driving it, but our LT wanted us to drop the sides and drive a M114 on the back of a M813 5T truck. Drive from Bamberg to Grafenwohr MTA was the plan. Thankfully once he saw it loaded he changed his tune.

24 pack of small bottle gatorades in a flatbed 7ton. If I would of know I was going to waste a day at Pendleton supply for something so little I would of just bought them at the PX...and the next day was followed by 20 fifty’s in a mini van it made no since. That minivan was dragging.

While at Ft Campbell, sometime between Oct 1988 and April 1990, had to take the M915 with trailer to get a pallet of batteries. One pallet. Couldn't have any holes in the floor of the trailer (not an easy thing to find) AND had to have another tractor follow me. The E5 "reading the map" got us lost and it ended up being an overnight trip. The batteries were for the stupid laser tag devices.

I asked the guys at the drop-off why. They said they had no idea and that they normally take one of the pickups they have there. They were civilians and really nice, just confused.

I could have hauled twice as many batteries in my 2 door escort! What a waste.
