Does applicant have to be a US citizen or permanent residence is qualified to join as well? What would be other recommendations for permanent residence joining US army with language skill. Thank you. You maybe want to talk to you recruiter about the options for you. With a language skill already you can take the DLPT and get language pay. NO financial setbacks (ie, debt of over some months long and over certain amount). You also cannot be a member of any radical / extremist groups. Any "dirty spots" on your background can deny you Top Secret clearance.

Language skills NOT required, not even for 35P or M, you will be tested DLAB to determine which language you'll study. If that way, you will attend DLI and there's a criterion for finishing the school. If you pass DLPT ( as I did) during enlistment process, you can skip DLI and attend AIT directly.

For non-US-citizens, you're NOT eligible for anything 35. Either become naturalized then enlist OR enlist, naturalized, then re-class.

Either way, good luck to you. The only language based MOSs are 35M, 35P, and 09L. I’ve only met a handful of 09Ls so I’m not 100% on their qualifications, but I’d assume they require the same as 35 series given they fall under the MI branch. He learned Russian at DLI. He lost his clearance when he married a foreign national five years into his 20-year career. After retirement he went to work as a defense contractor. When she got her U.S. citizenship, he got his TS-SCI clearance back. He was a former Brit who had married an American. He is a 35 series like me. However, as I'd seen before with Linguists, if you are a foreigner in a 35 series you don't tend to do your job as quickly and this can lead to a lot of frustration for some people. Others don't care as much because they get to hang out at the company and collect a paycheck.
