Sir Radcliffe was called upon by the Viceroy of British India to sketch out a line separating India from (fill in the blank). The Viceroy directed Radcliffe to draw the line separating India along religious lines. Where is this line and to what extent is it?

CPT Gurinder (Gene) Rana What do you mean the extent? British India was divided after the end of British rule creating essentially 3 countries from a perviously British drawn border. I think Bangladesh was eventually created out of the void of muslims unwilling to be part of India or Pakistan.

The British Raj divided India into two, India and Pakistan. Pakistan was divided into West and East Pakistan. In 1971, East Pakistan earned its independence from West Pakistan and changed its name to Bangladesh, CSM William Everroad.

CPT Gurinder (Gene) Rana, that makes sense thanks for the clarification. I couldn't remember the exact timeline. I am still not sure what you are asking.

Most of the problems in the developing world can be traced back to Europeans drawing lines on maps.

Imaginary lines SFC Thomas Foreman by a person unfamiliar with the land or its people. Where is NJ9842 or Indira Ridge?

CPT Gurinder (Gene) Rana exactly. No regard for existing loyalties or ties. I’m not well versed on the colonial era of India but look at…most of Africa. 300000 Rawandans died because they lived on the wrong side of a border they themselves did not create.

CPT Gurinder (Gene) Rana - I would say that India came out better on partition that Pakistan. There were number of concessions that allowed India to keep Muslim majority areas to maintain continuity with Hindi majority regions, or transportation routes. It wasn't all one sided, Pakistan ended up with the historical homeland of the Sikh's. I don't think any division would have made everyone happy.
From my reading of Indian History, the British Raj basically replace the original Mughal empire and followed the same general pattern of coopting the various local rulers.
