What is the likelihood of my receiving an Army ROTC scholarship? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-is-the-likelihood-of-my-receiving-an-army-rotc-scholarship

Good Evening,

I am transferring from AFROTC into AROTC and will likely attend Basic Camp this summer. I am a 3.00 GPA and my PT scores are not good at all, my all time best was 200 (I know it is very bad but I’ve only been training for Army PT test since I found out I am moving, which was last week).

No excuses, I will do my best, but I highly doubt I will do any better than 200 by the time my records are sent for scholarship board. I know people who have scholarships with a 2.6 GPA - but again, their PT scores are up in the sky.

My GPA is fair, PT is just passing. I am trying to go for the two year scholarship. Will it be likely?

Thank you all so much! You can contact the schools ROTC Recruiting Officer directly to ask how many scholarships they have left. The long and short of it is that you drill with a Reserve or Guard unit, do ROTC, go to class, and you generally get commissioned into the Reserves or National Guard.

Fitness and education are always big points for anything related to ROTC, and it already sounds like you know what you need to improve on. Make sure you stay in contact with the Gold Bar Recruiter, as well as anyone else in the program who is handling your paperwork. Being proactive is what will get you where you want to be. How can you lead troops "from the front" if you're not out in front? You might be better off staying in AFROTC if your physical fitness is lacking.

Regarding your desire for a scholarship... 3.0 GPA and low PT scores will probably make it difficult (also depends on your major, an Engineering 3.0 is not quite the same as a History 3.0). This would be a good topic to bring up with the Army ROTC cadre at your school... perhaps your language skills might be of interest for the scholarship?? Once I got back from training I went to my first drill weekend and my leadership put me in contact with a cadet from my university and it is all history from there.

Point being, if you want something bad enough, you will make the necessary sacrifice to complete the mission. I didn’t want to graduate a year after my peers in college, but it was worth it to get where I am at now. Look into the SMP option. Get that pt score up, sprint workouts and 100 push-ups and sit-ups a night will help. as for GPA, make all the time you can to study and get things done, and prioritize your time towards being an A student.
