I am 3rd-gen Navy, and have associated with military personnel for my entire life, and I have never, EVER seen ANYONE make e-9 in 10 years. Even e-7 is impossible for MOST jobs, and would be impressive, for some select jobs. I made E6 in about 4 and half years.

Speaking from the Navy perspective: If you come in as an E3, you only have to spend 6 months as an E3 before testing for E4 (provided you have a rate).

E-3 to E-4: 6 months
E-4 to E-5: 1 year
E-5 to E-6: 3 years (minimum 2 with Early Promote)
E-6 to E-7: 3 years (minimum 2 with Early Promote, then test for board)
E-7 to E-8: 3 years
E-8 to E-9: 3 years

The way I remember BUPERS, Chiefs are not eligible for Early Promotion consideration.

I have seen people make E-7 within their first enlistment. There are always random circumstances as well that lead to super early promotions, though they are usually rare.

http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/instructions/BUPERSInstructions/Documents/1430.16F.pdf

ÈG/¿Í X#Çä`àW/øq@ïÓÆÅÔó}Í.F¿ãbXÌãÿ/0)ßG1O8ÎÜ·Q\ÞBËèÚöúQXÖo|;ÃÐ Âåhï,GiÙèßFc¡[4Ðfl2ÓðztñéñÞßóLÛ2éÜhóÆk»fï}CPlÁîÐsøË2TcñÄda|XÝcB51wz`=LÏf6ÌÖ/57ê@wuì/ÃxTüY 7ªÈ~Z'r Å)ÜKUy.Ó}NGózñ ÍfÁÿÕBø:g_àæîüàËíÿÜÝ@øÙG6gò@ó fOÂ,nôÓ?üóqùy"çóùÌâÈ#É"1Õe¡ZKðó4)+rG:ÞC§íDïÒÓ,ÚÊóàV{%ÁphMÐZ8ÈÀD=â0&mÓ*¶I,é7qdqäJòN_ãrÓ=$;Üi%,Ù9JÜöFJväuD]9»ÔT&ù~[ëe`G-ËJÕh!ñQ@TdT"N%·IIÉáiýÊuQ§1,3ù]RLHªsª%«;z}§A]_i*ÐQ)mNÕq*éNÑÖæ6_ÉáHó//§7]co_ËfÙæ'2þZÎãü,DìÇÙM¶·ØËnPËÞlõèKpSI...

Response by PO1 Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 28 at 2015 9:38 AM 2015-12-28T09:38:24-05:00 2015-12-28T09:38:24-05:00 MSG Private RallyPoint Member 1200381

Setting your goals now?
