What is the minimum time you are able to extend you contract? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-is-the-minimum-time-you-are-able-to-extend-you-contract

My ETS date is upon me and I was attempting to reclass but there are 0 class seats available at the moment. I am willing to extend to see if anything opens up but not for a substantial amount of time. The guard has spots open and i dont want to miss that opportunity given the wait could be a year or so. My retention is of minimal help and only assists solders "Who's mind is made up", verbatim. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. There are some excellent retention folks on the site that can give you a better idea of the expected wait time for a class seat to open if you list the MOS in your original question. As I told you in your previous post, you need to extend for 12 months. You will be in your re-enlistment window still and that will give you a year to get the class seat that you want. It might be 6 months to a year before class seats open up for MOS 15 C and 15 w.

The guard you're talking about are a bit misleading. The guard does not have class seats for you. The guard has open positions for that MOS. Because you are already MOS qualified the guard has up to 2 years to send you to school. So I'd be pretty sure that you would extend for a year to find a seat, and then have to extend another year to attend.. depending on how soon a seat opens up.. but time flys when you're having fun SPC Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 18 Dec 2020 14:33:21 -0500 2020-12-18T14:33:21-05:00 Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 20 at 2020 12:15 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-is-the-minimum-time-you-are-able-to-extend-you-contract?n=6594098&urlhash=6594098

Do not leave active duty for national guard just to switch your MOS. This is a job you'll be doing for 16 hours out of the month. Unless you have a solid plan for when you get out (a better job than you have now), then don't do it. Just extend for 12 months and wait for the school seat. You must not want to reclass that bad if you're not willing to wait 12 months.

When I applied to go 160th SOAR, I knew that I would have to wait 17 months until I could actually PCS and even attend EGP just to get a shot at joining the Regiment. I didn't think twice. If you really want something, you're willing to do what is necessary. If you're not, then you don't want it as bad as you really think you do.
