We are all in this boat!!! But it seems like thats the way it has always been.
Personally I feel like the kids coming in are of a higher quality recruit than what I went to basic with. Even compared to 2 or 3 years ago the kids coming in NOW see the military as what they wanted, rather than the LAST possible option for them.
Train them. Develope them. That is your job. But remember, when you came in, even after basic you were likely exactly the same as they are now. You just had the last howevermany years to get to where you are now

I am not sure, I remember when they started arriving in South Korea with STRESS CARDS and Male Soldiers thought they did not have to listen to a female NCO. It was ridiculous!

SFC Luke Anderson if I am understanding what you are saying; you are referring to discipline and all around soldiering skills? I would say they have a basic understanding of both, but it is up to the unit to get them squared away to be proficient. I think we have to remember that there is no feasible way for them to learn everything in the short time at Basic/AIT/OSUT. When I know I am getting a new guy, I print out some items for them to have such as standard packing list for field training, any unit SOP's in regards to their role and I pair them up with my senior E4 to help them out on the first few drills. This will help them understand right away my expectations as a TL or SL. I follow all this up with an initial counseling statement as well. Being NG it also makes it hard, but they will hold the standard you set. I give nothing, so they know from day one, minute one it will all have to be earned. .... However, I feel your frustration with the system, and it does feel that some where just pushed through the process and sent on their way.
