I was station at Kunsan AB, Korea and was a narcotics dog handler. One night I got a phone call from the Army unit attached to the base for a no notice dorm sweep. I entered one of the privates room. I noticed my dog was not sniffing but would stop and shake its paws like something was on them. The room was worse than a dumpster. I took my dog outside for a few minutes and the First Sgt asked why I did not clear the room. I told the First Sgt that the room was very nasty and I had to take my dog out for few minutes. The First Sgt turned bright red with anger and yelled at the private "Your room is so nasty even a dog does not want to go in there!" After about 15 minutes, I got my dog to finally clear the room.

It wasn't a barracks but a college apartment. The university had houses they had bought for future expansion. They rented them to students. For a very small fee you could keep the apartment for the summer. A grad student did so. But, before she left she turned the refrigerator off. When she returned in the fall she called to have the refrigerator cleaned. Seems she had left meats etc there!

We told her we would not clean it. I got a call from the president of the university. When told him what she did he in turn told her that she would have to clean it.

Talk about an odor - THAT was BAD.

Probably dead rats. You could smell them from down the hall. Soldier had so much crap in his room that he didnt even noticed he rats sharing thr room with him. Who knows how long the rat was there. I blamed his leadership for that one. It was terrible.

Walking back from the e-club with a buddy we entered our barracks hallway. The lights were out and night sticks had been broken and splattered all over the walls. Beer bottles lay broken from one end of the hallway to the other. It was a disaster. Don't know what they were on or smoking but the story I heard was that the beer bottles breaking against the wall made a cool effect with the night stick colors.

One place I was at had open/partition bunks. One guy had the worst smelling feet of all time. He didn't seem to ever do laundry either. One day a couple of my barracks mates grabbed the guy and tossed him in the shower to hose him off while others cleaned(G.I.'ed) his cubicle which reeked to high heavens. This guy was one unhappy, but cleaner, camper. He later called a taxi to use to go AWOL.

My roommate at GFAFB had a Canadian rentable lady in his bunk. We got up for duty the next morning and of course he was a little under the weather and was going to skip his shower. I told him he may want to at least brush his teeth. When he went into the squad bathroom to do so, he noticed what I had already say. Dried caked blood in his moustache and on his chin. The last sound I heard as I left for Guard mount, was him puking.

My room while at Lejeune. Went away with some friends over the weekend and came back in the middle of the night and as soon as stepped in the room I could tell something wasn't right. Once I flipped on the lights I could see why, the entire sewage system for the barracks backed up and came in through the swear drains.

I had over and inch of waste on the ceiling, walls and floors. It was New Years weekend so no one from base maintenance was around and the OOD couldn't understand why I didn't want to sleep there.

While in basic I was squad leader for the entire cycle as I was a "college boy" and DS thought I should be a leader. He gave me 2 split opt high school kids (16 year olds between junior and senior year of HS). One of them was an ass-kicking killer from Alabama the other.....well he was special. Looking back I think he was just extremely immature and not ready for basic at all. Here is his story. I would have to go into the bay (platoon guide and I had a 2 man room) to wake my squad each morning at 0400. One morning after flipping on the lights I saw Snuffy get out of bed and before he threw the blanket back I noticed the sheets were brown. :( I thought "Oh no, he shit the bed" As he walked out of the bay I turned the blanket back to realize the bed was full of DIRT. I mumbled "WTF?" and his bunk mate, with a thick Nigerian accent said "Specialist, he won't wash his ASS!!" We were in the middle of BRM in JULY at Ft Leonard Wood. Temps were well into the 90s and this jokers hadn't bathed in at least a WEEK. I took him aside and told him to fix his shit that afternoon. He didn't. I brought it to the DSs and all they had to say was "We will be leaving for the night at 1900 hrs...." I got the message. That night when we came for him he tried to hide in the laundry room. We found him and he got the scrub brush and simple green clean up. Never was a problem after that.

My first dorm room. Had a room mate with another unit sharing the bathroom with two videographers of my own unit.

For the first two months we had room inspection by my roommates first sergeant. Passed with flying colors... Then my first sergeant decided to do a room inspection.. and I fail with a mark on my inspection record that I should check the bathroom wall specifically.

I learned my Red Tilled shower wall was actually a WHITE Tilled shower wall.. the red was pure soap scum. And in San Antonio TX.. that soap scum was hardened like stone due to the hard water and looked completely natural on the tile like it was made that way!.. took me five bottles of Lime Away and about four hours of scrubbing to get it all out.

What was worse was.. the 1st Sergeant used me as a scapegoat. I was a Airman Basic.. and the two Videographers who were A1C's got a satisfactory report.. So lesson learned. I was at the base for five years and only had one unsat inspection afterwards.. and that was because I forgot to put my booze bottles back into my closet one time..

This one is all my fault, but I went on pre-deployment leave in August of 07 for a week. The day before I left I had put some chicken in the microwave to thaw so I could bbq that night. I got drunk and forgot to cook the chicken. It stayed in my microwave in the barracks for a week.
I got a call while I was home a few days later that my room smelled disgusting and they couldn't figure out why. I was clueless. I get back to Vilseck to find maggot covered chicken in my microwave. The smell was so vile I threw out the entire microwave. The room cleared out but every once in a while I would catch a whiff of that death chicken.

For me it had to be an inspection of a Soldiers on-base family housing.

Our unit got a call from base housing that several people called and complained about a smell coming from the housing unit. So myself and another NCO were dispatched to inspect the housing and report back to the 1SG. When we got there, we knocked on the door and the Solder's wife answer. We told her why we were there and asked to come in. She let us in. There was literally a path from the door, to the couch, to the dining room to the kitchen. Clothes and trash covered the floors and furniture. The stairs looked like a ramp covered in clothing. As we continued our inspection we made our way upstairs. As I was taking notes of the bathroom with its black tub and sink I heard my battle buddy yell out "Oh hell F*** no" from the bedroom. I made my way over the trash to the bedroom where he stood pointing at the end table next to the bed. On top was an adult sexual assistance device with what appeared to be some sort of human body waste on it. That completed our report. We reported back to the 1SG who took the report up through the chain of command.

Put everyone in formation outside while all of the rooms go searched the stuff that was found was quite amazing the most notable being several dildos in the freezer. The grossest being a 2 liter bottle of jizz that an airman had been collecting and was intending on dumping on someone from the window when he graduated.

Everyone hear the story of special ops kern.

One day this guy in myour unit went a wall. Good old PFC me head the luxurious task of cleaning his room to secure his gear. While in task we found pornh mags everywhere. Pages stuck together and everything. It was latelling 2006 so we were still using dad's and mags at this time. There were gallon jugs of dip spit. Fish guts in the sink and skinned fish in the fridge, just sitting there. So we start cleaning and packing when we get to his bed. That's when we find the icing on the cake. I don't know what they're called but it's a mold of an ass and a pussy. It was not clean. A few weeks later we are cleaning up the CO when we find a note pads that belongs to kern. In it is a letter he was writing to a girl. He talks about his special ops training and the missions he conducted in Iraq and Afghanistan. Then proceeds to say he cannot talk about it. He was arrested for insurance fraud because he ran out of money going home and scammed ussa. After his father called the unit and found out he went a wall. His father gave the cops his location.
This was an artillery unit in Alaska. We may never have another soldier as great as he. I like to think this great American is still watching from the shadows every time I get deployed.

I had a roommate for a few months, I met him he's covered in scabs literally everywhere and smelled like old mayonnaise. OK maybe he got into a bike accident a while ago or something, 2 weeks pass by I find out he's using my bar of soap, that by itself is gross I confront him he says he'll stop. I proceeded to put a thumb mark in the bar and use another bar for myself. The thumb mark was gone then he says dude I found out what these scabs are! They're a type of staph infection! I nearly vomit. A week later he left his room open and I figure I was going to steal a couple smokes from him holy shit there was a literal mountain of pizza boxes beer bottles, Chinese food, and even piss not even in a bottle! I get so mad I put cum on his pillow, steal his entire carton, take pictures and sent it to top 2 days later. He didn't even notice my cum on the pillow... Fucking gross

Back in 1992, I was a rope and did dorm inspections with the Blue Ropes (NCOs). Back then, it wasn't mandatory to have direct deposit. We inspected this guy's room and wall locker and found stacks of government paychecks (uncashed, still in their envelopes on the top shelf of the wall locker). The NCO secured the checks (forget how many...probably 12-15). Apparently, this guy never opened a checking account (prob didn't know how since he grew up on a farm) and stated he was "gittin, three squares and didn't need no money". The next day they took him to the credit union and opened a banking account with him.

No way I can compete with butt-worms, but I do have one for the ages. No names, but places are public domain. 2007, getting ready to deploy to Iraq in a few days as a replacement (always a good sign.) Before I go and buddy and I are playing GTA in the barracks when we get a knock at the door. Some dude we've never seen before is holding up this gross blob of a trailer park princess who's MOS I never learned.
He says, "Hey, this bitch in your unit?"

"I think she has alcohol poisoning." Then drops her like a sack of potatoes and left.
My buddy and I are like, well fuck. Be damned if we're calling the NCO's, this is Rear-D and nobody but this burned-out psycho of SSG is on duty and he'll just blame us. Since Ft. Stewart cares sooooo much about the safety of it's Soldiers, every room code was the same! So we opened her room and were immediately blown back by a cloud of stink. The first thing we noticed was the smoke, she'd left chicken on a burn plate... but no skillet. Yeah. After securing the fire hazard we saw the rest of a room she didn't share with anyone at the moment, which was probably how nobody had noticed before. What should have been two bunks in a room was one bunk (no identifiable bedding but dirty uniforms and clothes she was genuinely too fat to fit in, including what she was wearing already) and a pile of TA-50 and some other crap I didn't bother to identify. The floor was a layer of clothes, seemingly moist, and against my buddy's better judgement (He was a Cav Scout, I an MP) I just had to investigate how there could be all this shit out here, and not in her closet (where I hid my mess.) The answer explained something else I had been curious about, when did she take her trash out? She was never at the dumpster when the rest of us were walking to PT, but now I knew. She had NEVER taken her trash out. Since arriving at the Rock of the Merde she'd been saving every scrap in trash bags piled sealing high in her room.
Stepping over and through used panties, torpedo-shaped bras, trash and used feminine products, I simply had my buddy let go of her. She face planted in her own filth and we left her there.
I guess she didn't die, because she was at PT the next Monday like nothing had ever happened.
Later, when she got to FOB Kalsu, one of the guys in my platoon started tapping that. Good thing I didn't like him, otherwise I might have had to be a bro.

When I was going to AIT at Ft Eustis in 86, we were having a class A inspection. Just before SM entered our squad bay. Someone broke wind and it stank high heaven. Drill Sargent grabbed a can of air freshener out someone's wall locker and sprayed the squad bay. Seconds later the SM walks in. Drill Sargent call us to parade rest. The first SM says "it smells like someone shit on the flowers. The bay burst into laughter. He didn't spend much time inspecting us needless to say.

Had a guy that would peel off dead skin from his feet and toss it into his room heater. It smelled like death and foot fungus even after he left the Army.

Another guy stored trash in his room and had maggots growing in it. Took him 2 hours and a box of black trash bags to cart it to the dumpster. He got strong for the next few hours and got to GI his room daily for 2 weeks afterwards. He figured out life from then on.

Some guys decided it would be a good idea to share a gal when they were drunk. Her hygiene was not good. The soldiers room smelled for a week afterwards.

The nastiest thing that I know of going on in the barracks was when we had a Marine take a pockey pussy, shove it between the matress and bedframe of his roomates rack, stick a pillow under his knees and basically ended up doggy styling the bed. When asked about the pillow he stated "I wanted more leverage". He went up for hazing (it wasnt, just really stupid on his part, but not malicious) in the funniest investigation I have ever been witness to. My finger was bleeding from biting the side so hard in order to not bust out laughing, and keep my composure as the whole story came to light. Good times.

At Fort Sill, OK inside the 40th military police detachment, there was an awful smell no one could figure out. Until someone decided to move the copier and pull up the couch cushions only to find that one of the BMM (gate guard) soldiers had decided to leave a pile of body waste for the detachment to find.

I was a squad leader in my platoon at Fort Knox Basic Training in 1967. One morning falling out for Reveille one guy in my squad failed to get up out of his bunk. When it was my turn to verbally report while in formation, I shouted "one man absent sir!". The drill sgt with his disgruntled face and response shouted "who is absent" in front of the whole platoon. I responded "McClosky drill sgt!".....The drill sgt had me break rank and go with him to the 2nd tier barracks to the bay room where McClosky was still sleeping in the upper bunk of the bunk bed. Drill Sgt yells at the top of his lungs to Pvt McCloskwy to get the F out of bed. McClosky woke up suddenly and propped up on his elbows spitting at the drill sgt. WOW, I was shocked!!...The drill sgt pushes the whole damn bunk over with McClosky on the top still hanging on and when he crashed hard on the floor, the drill sgt was still yelling at him. Luckily I wasn't yelled at (lol)...

Was on bay orderly in Aviano going room to room with one of the dorm manager putting notice memos on peoples' beds (for the upcoming bicycle roundup). They were all two room suites with a shared kitchen area. We walked into one kitchen and were taken aback by the most foul mildew and rotting trash smell, the room to the left we couldn't even open the door more than 8 inches because the floor was covered in trash and dirty clothes. His first sergeant got a call later on. Another kitchen and room had empty beer bottles covering every hard horizontal surface, none of them had been rinsed out so the smell of nasty dried out beer permeated the entire suite.

Same base I had a psycho suitemate who got violently sick in our shared bathroom, like worst food poisoning ever. They puked all over the toilet and in the process shit violently all over the floor. There was no way I was touching it so I used the dayroom bathroom for two days until I got fed up and got our mutual friend to force them to clean it up. To this day I can't stand the smell of bleach cleaning products.

Once I was called to do a health and comfort inspection in base housing. Everyone knows that it is rare for family housing inspections. This time there was a problem. A nasty problem. And they called the PMT--Corpsman (Preventive Medicine--kind of like the health department in the Navy).

We get there and let me just say gloves and a gasmasks were needed... Maybe not a gasmask but it sure stunk of urine, feces, rotten garbage, and musk combined.

The floor was nasty, was were duty and scribbled on, the refrigerator was likely one big science project.

Everything was in disarray. But really got to me was that they had kids. Young ones still in diapers. They were using a hutch as a changing table. There were old dirty diapers in the hutch that were like jelly because they were starting to decay. I still cringe when I think about it.

I never knew the outcome but all the important people on base were involved. Sad. It was sad because the kids.

most disgusting? TDY at Langley AFB circa 1985. A group of about 8-10 airmen running a train on a grossly overweight, 18 y/o dependa daughter in the communal latrine. Only slightly less disturbing, the following evening walking into my room and finding that same female bent over a chair getting pounded by my SSgt roommate while slapping her ass with a ping pong paddle.

Things must have really changed from the 60's. When in Germany and I made Sp4 I was assigned a room of 12 Pvt's and PFC's to keep ready for inspections. So while we were getting the SPC room ready Sat. inspection we would all go check the rooms we were responsible for. If the 1SG or Lt just did a quick walk through so they could go home we usually passed with flying colors. Surprisingly the only room to cause problems was the NCO & Sr NCO room. We had a E7 and one E6 who lived in the barracks. But there were 3 E6's and 2 E5's who lived off base but had to keep a bunk and their field equipment in the room. For a Bn inspection they would come in the night before for the GI party and lay out all their gear. Otherwise they would just throw all their stuff in their lockers. They got so they would pay a couple of PVT's $5.00 each to mop and buff their floors. 2 of the E6's did not pay up a couple of weeks. They had to explain the the 1ST why there were burn marks on their blankets. LOL, a GI blanket under a buffer put a beautiful shine on the floor. It also left marks on the blanket.
New guys wouldn't understand but when I was a PVT and was offered $10.00 to mop and clean the room with a buddy I grabbed it. I was making about $85.00 a month before deductions and was always broke by the 15th.

Had a young Marine that was awaiting discharge after NJP. For some reason it took about 2 months. Well, Pvt Dipshit loved his chewing tobacco. So much so that he saved about 100 plastic coke bottles full and left them in the top of his wall locker. His roommate was on deployment when he finally got the boot. Those bottles sat in there 4 months in a room with no AC.
When roommate returned from deployment and reported the smell we found the bottles along with a note "Greetings from Kentucky Fuckers"
