What is the process, and how difficult is it, to get a waiver to reenlist with an RE-3? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-is-the-process-and-how-difficult-is-it-to-get-a-waiver-to-reenlist-with-an-re-3

Previously joined, and was discharged, from the Army. I finished basic but did not technically finish AIt for 68W. I MEB'd out. Now, I'd like to try and reenlist. My DD214 code is a 3 which means I would need a waiver. I was wondering if I could get some insight on the difficulties on getting the waiver and what the process would be like. I was discharged for what was diagnosed as migraines at my duty station. I was given a 3 code, as well. These migraines turned out to be sinus headaches & i have no recurrences in the last 17 years.
I am on my 3rd recruiter, and she is AWESOME. The trick is getting ALL of you documentation regarding the discharge & any following appointments regarding that diagnosis since. Then you need to find a recruiter that will fight for you to get back in. I was army and left bct 2 weeks prior to graduation because I was sexually assaulted by 2 staff sergeants who told me faggots had no place in the military. They tried there best to make me leave and went on a witch hunt and forced several other gay recruits to leave. When Nothing they did could make me quit they took it up a notch and when nothing was done about it I decided I could not stay in the military. It was not safe for me and there were no protections for me under the law because I didnt know how I would handle that situation if it were to ever happen to me again with no law to protect me I chose to leave.

I was told they would put whatever they needed to on my papers to have me processed out. I was assigned a jga and an re3 code. This all happened in 2010 2 months after all of this dadt was repealed and lgbt men and women were granted protection. I spoke with a recruiter about reenlisting and they say I could but I told them mentally I was not ready just yet not after everything that has happened.

Now im trying to reenlist in the navy but im told I need a waiver and I was worried. I have never been in jail or arrested I have solid health and everything but my job history and finances have not been the best since leaving and I am worried this opportunity will be closed to me.

I am not trans gendered but I saw how donald trump revoked trans peoples right to serve in the military. I saw the back and forth and careers lgbt service members lost and it let me know the opportunity to serve is not finite for somebody like me and could be revoked at any moment.

I do want to enlist and know I would be an asset to the navy but i dont know how this waiver process will go. What information do they need to do my waivers its not something I really want to talk about. Are there any recruiters with experience on this?

I wrote a letter to the pentagon explaining all of this and I was shocked but they did actually respond telling me that under current u.s laws I am eligible for enlistment and that what happened was wrong and I should go for it.

I guess to get a waiver though you have to demonstrate you have had some marvelous flawless life after separating from the military in terms of employment and education etc. I have just worked some odd jobs haven't been arrested some debt but haven't done anything remarkable.

Does this mean I cant get a waiver? For example, if it's for PT then you will have to take and pass an APFT and ht/wt before you are even eligible for a waiver. Then the rest is all up to your recruiter, if you can find one willing to do all the extra paperwork when you aren't going to help their numbers, and HRC to approve it.
