What is the process to change States in the Army National Guard?

Because of family crisis I will like to know what is the process of changing the state which I am assign to?

This is an IST (Inter-State Transfer), and is fairly common, as people do move. I believe the best way to do this is to first find the unit that will take you, and then you file an IST request via DA 4187 (update: combined with a NGB Form 22-5) within your chain of command. However, I recommend you give your chain of command a heads up on what's going on, so the first time they hear about this is not when you drop your 4187.

As far as finding a unit in the other State, you can either go directly to one if you know it, begin a conversation with certain units on RallyPoint (https://www.rallypoint.com/units/all-groups/usarng-us-army-national-guard-arlington-va), or contact the S-1 office of the State that you're interested in and have them put you in touch with the State accessions NCO to learn about opportunities. The first thing you need to do is have a conversation with Company, and then Battalion, Commander. Keep them in the loop, and let them help you. Otherwise, everything that has already been said by other posters.

It's a shame, but I don't think most civilian adults under the age of 30 know how to treat our flag. People in our country today are taught it school that the flag stands for imperialism. Again, it's shameful.

As some has alluded to it is pretty common to have this done. A lot of states are very familiar how to do this. I have used RallyPoint to help one of my soldiers do this. I was able to use the unit locator tool to find a unit and contact a person there to get the ball rolling. It was awesome to have a means to find a person in the unit he was hoping to go to. I would try to start there. Of course you should also go to you command and explain why you are doing it. Just saying you want to IST may not go over well. I am sure if he knew why they would be more than willing to help you.

Notify CoC first and once everyone has had an opportunity to discuss your situation they can contact the state's IST coordinator. Every state should have one, which is something most people don't realize. I wouldn't try making contact with units on your own, since that will most likely upset everyone in your chain. It's not always a quick process, but working with your unit will make them more receptive to helping you with split training etc.....

Every state has (or should have) an Inter State Transfer Coordinator, who is normally assigned to the Recruting & Retention Battalion. Any RRNCO in your state should be able to give you the IST coordinators POC. They can help / advise you on the paperwork and thier job is to contact the gaining states IST coordinator to find you a vacancy / unit near where you will be moving to (if possible). Defintely use your chain-of-command for the official request, but giving the IST corodinator from your state a call can help things along and answer any questions you might have.

See your Readiness NCO. He/She should be able to direct you to the IST (Inter-State Transfer)Coordinator who usually works in Recruiting and Retention Cmd. That person should be able to help you locate a unit and guide you through the process.
