What is the proper method to calculate a VA disability rating?

I just received a letter from my service branch saying that I've been payed VA benefits correctly up to this date - BUT - my rating was calculated incorrectly and I am being evaluated for a bump in percentage of rating.

Now that I'm looking it over, I'm confused as hell. I got eight items rated - and ended up with one at 50%, and seven at 10%.
What I was originally told was that the 50 is done first, then 10% taken off of the remainder of my 50% "efficiency" score. When I calculated it all out when I was rated, I ended up with about 77% - rounded up to a tidy 80%.

Was I wrong? Was the VA wrong? Looking it over now, and going by the myriad calculators online, I end up getting everything from 70% to 100%...

Can a person that can math better than me help me out? 50+(7x10). Thank you!!

Go to the Ebenefits website. They explain it all there. I don't think anyone outside of the VA can properly explain their sorry excuse for math.

VA math - 10 + 20 + 60 = 70. One example. Or 10 + unemployable = 100.

Only the Wizards at VA can figure this crap out- I retired with 5 things wrong and after 21 yrs of jumping got a whooping 10%. When diagnosed with PTSD/major depression I climbed to 60%

You start off 100% whole, and you take away 50%.
Now, you are 50% whole.
10% is not 10% of 100%, because you are now only 50% whole, so it is 10% of 50%, which is only 5, not 10.
And it continues using that same logic for each additional rating.
There is an exception for bilateral ratings, where 10% and 10% add up to something like 22, but refer to the calculator, or CFR 38.
Google VA compensation calculator, and you'll find several.
