If too much bottled water, food, MREs, etc. is received, I understand you can give it all away. Is this the same for army wine that is ordered and not able to be consumed? Can you give it away to Soldiers? Then i find out from the chaplain that their wine supply was full, but someone not the Chaplain put in another order of wine. It seems like someone is using government funds to procure surplus wine so they can dispose of it Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 18 at 2020 2:12 AM 2020-07-18T02:12:22-04:00 2020-07-18T02:12:22-04:00 SSG Carlos Madden 6113128

Can you donate it to a local church or organization? MRE's are a perfect example of this. When we come back from an exercise the unopened boxes could simply be put back in the proper storage. From there, it would be a matter of administrative process to transfer to other units or consume during future needs.

This being a religious item I don't know how it would be dealt with, but I presume it depends on the shelf life and storage requirements of what otherwise seems like a Class 1 supply to me.

Next, find out who is ordering this stuff to such a degree they are getting too much, and write a counseling statement to direct them to re-estimate the amounts needed, and spell out the process for disposal or transfer of extra to other units in need.

***
Or........... Think of excess unfired ammo on the qual range. You'll get in less trouble dumping it down the sink if it's going to spoil (actually that's even better, simply let it go bad) than giving it away.
