What is the purpose of the patrol cap liner?

What is the reasoning behind the liner in the pc? It seems like a waste of cloth

In my opinion, its a pocket and it helps keep the water from dripping directly on your head when its raining.

That way your patrol cap will be lined in accordance with AR 670-1, I think.....

I used to cut the lining out of one of my PCs... Used that one during the hot season of deployments and garrison and my non-altered one during the colder times. Really I have no clue what the purpose of the liner is... I used to tuck away a few dollars in there to make sure I had cash for lunch or snacks that my wife could never nab out of my wallet LOL

I had one PC with the liner cut out for warmer weather. Worked out much better when I relocated to the south. And I usually kept 1 or 2 intact for colder weather, but not cold enough for the fleece or knit caps.

As for the usefulness of the pocket, I always kept my land navigation protractor in there. I know of other soldiers who kept cigarettes and/or lighters there for smoke breaks.

The pocket is for maps or important papers. The liner is so sweat and oils don’t come through the hat. It was considered a quality issue in the day.

I am trying to remember but those are in the winter patrol caps right? I remember in the BDU winter sets there was a liner some where in a PC.

Its called a map pocket. I never used it for anything.

The winter BDU patrol caps had a liner, but not a pocket. The summer patrol caps had no liner and two ventilation holes on each side. I keep hoping Ranger Joe’s will make a hot weather PC in the new OCP pattern. I cut the liners out of the new PC’s (UCP and OCP) as soon as I got them.
