Falls Church is very nice, Tysons Corner is very expensive and built up.
The basic thing to keep in mind is that the area is absolutely HORRIBLE for traffic. Any where you go keep in mind where you are going to be working and the distance from that point. If you have to travel the beltway to get there or to go home, count on a LONG commute time. I lived in Silver Spring, MD and used to work inFairfax, VA. It was only 34 miles from my house to the job. On average in the morning it used to take about 45 minutes on a good day- but that's because I wasn't traveling with rush hour in the AM. In the evening when I did catch the tail end of rush it was 1.5 hours and at worst it was double that!
Also, if you have no experience in cost of living in this area it is very expensive- more so in my experience in Northern VA than in areas of MD. People do seem to get good VHA but still very expensive so be prepared. I just left there after being in the area for 25 years. If I can help please let me know.
It is a great area to live overall. Lots of things to see and do. I enjoyed things there for sure. But, I cannot stress the impact of commuting in that area strongly enough. Metro can be helpful, but lately hasn't been as reliable or safe so keep that in mind as well.

Whoops responded below! I will ask my friends in that area. I don't have kids so I'm not much help there.

You will find the traffic a pain. Housing is expensive, Apartment or house. Ensure you assess salary against cost. There are many things to do, it is an amazing region if you enjoy city life. Great food form all cultures, great beer and wine form around the globe. If you would rather live in the Burbs outside of the beltway the cost goes down and the commute is really no different. Good Luck!
