It's that time of year I have to review my ORB data, and I literally just finished CCC for LG (1059 hasn't even iPerm'd yet). Anyway, I noticed a data column going through my ORB portal review and my current duty positions says "Joint Time - YES." What does that mean for me as a FY20 CPT with a MDR of 2032. Does it mean anything for me, or is that a Field Grade feather? I'm in an O3 billet, so I can't sit here through MAJ.

having 3A/3L are good to have on your ORB once you make field grade.

Your question is confusing though. You worded it like it’s just something in your duty description. Are you in a joint unit, filling a billet on a joint manning document?

There is also the issue of getting JPME I/II to be 3 L. If you did three years in the joint billet , then go get JPMEI/II in ILE and at Norfolk, then you are 3L. Getting the joint time without the school leaves you at 3A...good news: much easier to get the school than the time.

LTC Jason Mackay - Sir's, I am in a Joint unit, filling the O3 billet. The duty description is pretty high in the sky. "EXEC OFF to the DDOC-K Director" (that's what it says on the UMR/ORB). It is a 90A92 position, and with the completion of LG CCC, and a QM BOLC graduate that's is exactly what I am now "90A92"

I found this:

*****Of note, by law, officers in the rank of Major or above, designated as joint qualified officers (ASI 3L), are expected to be promoted, as a group, to the next higher rank at an equal or higher rate as commissioned officer in the same rank and competitive category for each service.*****

It should help get me to LTC before I reach MRD

I haven't see it. I just looked at my ORB and I don't see anything that references a joint assignment. In the Regular Army is not something that really matters as a Captain. It isn't really something that you need to promote. I would look at your Branch's career path. If it isn't on that I wouldn't worry about. Staff time is still staff time whether is a regular staff vs a joint staff.

I am finding articles and such discussing the 3A/3L pathway, and to your point, I found an article that says statistically 3A/3L while designated to promote faster by "law" do not promote faster than their peers with equally strong board packets. To me, that reads that 3A/3L officers are by their nature already strong promotion material.

So just be me, develop and prepare and 3A/3L wont matter anyway.

As a reservist, I do think it will influence how my yearly Annual Training exercises pan out based on the nature of the unit I am assigned to based on 3L ASI.
