It isn't damp cold and places are well insulated but you do need to have winter clothing and be ready for it. It gets cold in the winter!! Can get below 0 and the wind is a factor much of the time! wind chill factors can get bad. Humidity is always low, so that helps a little. In the summer, it's great. Moderate temps. I'm from South Carolina, so it was nice for me, in the warm months. We got extra cold weather issue gear and got the high altitude briefing. Change your socks every morning, especially when down-range. I'm not familiar with 25U, but tankers got the worst (along with boots and scouts, etc.). Best wishes in your career! It was cold but not as cold as it would have been if I had been in Louisiana, where I am from. It is a dry cold instead of a humid cold. It snows a lot there but it is also a beautiful state. If you enjoy seeing beautiful country I suggest you go to Fort Carson, Colorado. Take up skiing. There are a lot of ski resorts to go to and you will find a lot of other things to do in Colorado as well. Enjoy your time there. Hot one day and then cold the next. When it snows, it snows and there is likely to be a high wind with that. I did a lot of field time in Pinon Canyon and it was colder than a well diggers a$$ in Alaska out there. At times we were butt deep in snow. If you like a hotter climate, I suggest you find another place to be stationed. The Spring and Summer brings beauty to the area. Fort Carson is located at the foot of Cheyenne Mountain and it is beautiful to see. My front door, in senior NCO housing, opened to the sight of this majestic mountain. If you can live with the cold for a little while, you can also enjoy the beauty and warm climate of the Spring and Summer months.
