Writing a resume that reflected what my skills were as well as proven leadership abilities. Our way of life is difficult to translate for the average civilian employer. And if you go for civil service, how you prepare your application can result in a lower grade level and be somewhat unproductive. Starting pay is important, but job potential is critical, particularly whey you are a young veteran looking to make your mark.

Agreed. I had to break down the job of a Navy Chief to grade school levels since the folks I was interviewing with had no military experience. It was a little frustrating but in the end I think it worked to my advantage.

It was my overconfidence that I could walk in anywhere and be hired instantly. That didn't work out very well.

Selling myself. I was never good at Evals and writing a resume was tough.
