Favorite items or "Pogey bait" to bring to the Field?

"Pogey bait" is a reference to sweets or candy, which was in usage in the military as early as 1918. The term simply alludes to food (and other luxuries) rarely afforded to grunts

CSM Michael J. Uhlig has relied that he was taught the history of the term related to grunts providing candies (bait) to the Poges (rear echelon troops) to get their paperwork done....thus the term pogey bait

Come out in full-force on this post RP, reply and don't just view. Your response might make the difference in a servicemen's field training!!!

I understood the history of the term related to grunts proving candies (bait) to the Poges (rear echelon troops) to get their paperwork done....thus the term pogey bait...If I bring anything it is dried fish (very high protein and very light)

That origin makes more sense CSM, I wikipediaed mine, that would be good thing to pack. I am assuming you would dry the fish yourself- was it from a catch harvest? I am going to copy your post definition and put it in the main post.

Beef jerky or gatoraid. But I never went to the field without hot sauce.

1stSgt (Join to see), Tapatio was "plan-B" --depending on budget and availability. During my last deployment, I wrote a sad-sack letter to Tabasco. They sent a 24-bottle case to me & my Marines. Customer for Life!
