But later in military life that saying made sense to me when my Drill Sargent said:

Hmm, you weren't specific, so my favorite Proverb from the bible is "Speak not in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of thy words." Religious or not, it's something anyone can apply.

Get wisdom, though it costs all you have, get understanding. [Proverbs 4:7]

*Most people don't understand that wisdom is the highest virtue, and that all other true virtues are encompassed, controlled, moderated, and balanced by gaining wisdom, which also propels us to develop the proper amounts of all the other strengths, and hold them in check, lest they act destructively. Why should we over-develop other strengths, such as muscles, or tenacity, or love, or sacrifice and by their over-use to destroy ourselves or our loved ones. Some of you won't understand how other beneficial strengths can destroy us or our loved ones, but if you think on this or ask your wisest friends, I have confidence that you will understand.
