I have a good judo and wrestling background. That wont prevent me from using various strikes to various parts of the body.

Verbal judo. At my age if I can't talk my way out of a situation then Glock .40. I'm old and brittle and I don't believe in a fair fight with someone stronger and faster.

I took a few Lessons of Tae Kwan Do before I joined the Service. I thought it was a good system. More Recently took MOAB and the Instructor complimented my kicking style and asked where I picked that up. I told him I took a little Tae Kwan Do when I was 17. When your 6'4" your Legs are a Readily Available Weapon.

I only see self defense with the man attacking a woman. What does a defenseless old white guy like me (or perhaps old black guy) do against a mean lean female on the prowl????

I've taken Hagganah, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu and a few others I've dabbled in. Each one brings something to the table, but the forms I'm comfortable with and that work naturally in a given situation are the ones I use in a confrontation.

As a recreational/fitness thing I choose jujitsu. It is easier on my body than say judo or kickboxing. I am 47 and have to be much more careful and use my mind and experience over the younger guys. However, for real self defense if I can't 'diplomatically' avoid it- 911 or 9mm whichever is more appropriate for the moment.

Interestingly, I've never heard of EDC though I'll obviously look it up, I've personally, as I've said elsewhere on here, grown to love both aikido as well as iaido, not for any practical reasons, however, only for their purely aerobic benefit, as well as the sheer complexity and or precision's of the motions, as well as the fluidity needed...I did also see an aikido group on the site here, as well, which, if nothing else, is, at the very least, encouraging, lol...

I have kickboxing (Muay Thai), Brazilian Jujitsu, Judo, and boxing training. I have a very small build so I favor Jujitsu over other styles. At the same time, many do not know how to fight on the ground as opposed to stand up.

i am a fan of tai chi! not the watered down version they teach to people in retirement homes. my favorite style is the Wudong style.
