What is your opinion on Mississippi State flag being used during a ceremony

There is a lot of controversy over the confederate flag being flown in the United States. I want to know what your feeling about the Mississippi State flag being present during military ceremonies since it has the confederate flag sewn into it. Please remember to be polite in your responses as we are not here to bring disrespect to anyone's race or beliefs.

America get over this flag thing. I get it and the rest of the world gets it, it represents hatred (for some). It's our history like it or not. It's not a shining moment in our history but move forward. Let it represent the past and learn from it so this period does not repeat!

No issues. I try not to let trivial things bother me. For one side, it's a symbol of hatred and for the other side, it's a symbol of heritage. We expend a lot of mental bandwidth on things that don't matter. Inequality (due to race, religion, sexual orientation, etc, etc,) is a real problem in America. We should spend less time talking about symbols and more time listening, caring, understanding, and healing the wounds of our past. Cause lets be honest, the problem isn't the flag - it's just the media's flavor of the week.

Until it is no longer their state flag, it is their state flag, and appropriate if the state flag is required.

I don't see an issue with it. It is a state flag. Always has been. If it aint broke, then don't fix it. and state flags aint broke. here's the big issue; ignorance. On all sides of that conflict. Do I think the confederate flag should be left alone? Yes. But I also think there should also be more taught on the subject. Not just "the flag was flown by both the Confederates and the KKK." Because that is all that is really taught these days. They don't explain the significance, history, or purpose behind that particular flag. And I'm pretty certain that the reason for this is all this PC bull, and fear of hurting people's feelings. Wake up, people! It is a FLAG! It is a harmless piece of cloth. It has a bloody history, true enough, but the American flag does too. But they are flags. Symbols. History. Leave them alone.

Its the current official state flag so you don't have a choice about using it. FYI: The Mississippi flag has an interesting and storied history that most people don't know. Their 1st flag was the Bonnie Blue flag (just a blue flag with a big white star). Their second flag was the Magnolia flag (my favorite). In 1894 the Magnolia flag was replaced with the current flag. In 1906 the current flag was mistakenly repealed and the error was not noticed until 2001 when it was officially re-adopted for use. I grew up in Mississippi and would like to see them revert to the Magnolia flag which is more indicative of the "Magnolia" State.

I have a heck of a lot less of an issue with it since it's actually an active flag for the state. If you want this one changed you need to get the state flag changed. It's not being misused in the context you're talking about.

SSG Private RallyPoint Member -- The whole Confederate flag issue is BS. So it offends some people... got it.

The Gay Pride rainbow flag offends me. Is it banned? The Obama logo offends me. Is it banned. The Ohio State Buckeyes, Auburn Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, Tennessee Volunteers, Michigan Wolverines, etc., etc. flags, logos, etc. offend me [not really]. Are they banned?

Why do we continue to beat this dead horse?
