What is your opinions on volunteering for recruiting rather than being DA Selected?

Just wondering, are there any real differences in the process? Is one view more favorable in terms of career progression?

Not really, I called my branch to volunteer and was told I was already on orders go figure. By volunteering you will go if no other obligations would hold you from this assignment. One of the hardest jobs I've ever done in the Army. Took awhile to realize how important the job is in providing the strength for the Army. It's a whole different animal out there brother. Having recruiter or drill time is big plus I was always told for career progression.

The process is the same and career progression is the same. In the future no one will ever know if your branch placed you on recruiting or you volunteered yourself. The biggest difference is that if you volunteer you are supposed to have a better chance of getting your location of choice

Left recruiting not to long ago, no real noticable difference. The difference is if you volunteer, you can pick where you would like to go (key word:would) and voluntold you get to pick from a small list of areas hurting for recruiters. Second biggest difference is how 79R treats the DA selected than the volunteers. 79R's overall treat volunteers better. The mentality of "this person wants to be here." Until the 79R's realize you can't recruite and the DA selected can. Then your treated like sh*t like everyone else.

The end result is the same, if you serve well, it will serve you well.
