I started as a 31R - Multichannel Transmissions Operator/Maintainer or as I started telling people, AT&T in BDUs. A few years later, the powers that be decided to renumber the Signal Corp and now that MOS is a 25Q. I enjoyed most of my job, except for dealing with 30m mast antennas. I had the chance to change it for a reenlistment but I stayed for my entire 8 years and wouldn't change a thing about it even now.

Yes, I would change my MOS if possible. I had the opportunity once; no, twice, however I failed at completing the change once and opted for "NO" with the other. 6046 Maintenance Administration - At the beginning, I would have changed it. I was pissed when the "needs of the Marine Corps" put me in a job I didn't want. But I grew to love it and even years after separating, I'm still doing the same job.

When I was in, I was 92F/77F Petroleum Supply Specialist, and 11B Infantry before that. As a federal civilian I am currently a 0301 Project Manager. Before that I was 0346 Logistics Management Specialist, and 1106 Procurement Technician. I would change my series if the right job opened up, but we aren't as tied to it as the military is. So I can change pretty easily.

My primary was 6616.......com/nav technician for the F-4 Phantoms, with a secondary on the A-6 Intruders......later on, added recruiter to the mix (that one I would have changed if I could have). I would obviously have to change it now.......as the Phantoms are dinosaurs and no longer in use. Not that they would want this dinosaur (me) back in play.......

15T UH-60 repairer. Heck no I wouldn't change it. It took me 6 years in 2 other specialties to get it. Even on the days where I'm bored or tired of all the nonsense I can look out the window I'm licking and say to myself "How many people do you know can say they ride in a Black Hawk for a living?"

2531/2537 - Field Radio Operator/Communications Chief. Thought I would hate it. Ended up loving it. Being stuck in the middle of everything allowed me (and others) to anticipate our command structure's wishes. Overall, I was with a Landing Support Battalion and our command structure HAD TO anticipate needs on the battle field to get bullet, beans and band-aids forward and get casualties and POWs to the rear in an expedited manner.

My MOS was 11 bravo,I was sent to small arms school at Ft.Eutis Va. But upon returning to my unit went back to full grunt mode ,so I guess there was a chance of change ,but I had developed such a bond with the guys in the Company that I could not let them go to Vietnam without me,that was fifty years ago and I don't regret that decision to this day.

Hi, PO1 Cook.

In the beginning, I was an Imagery Interpretation Specialist; I forget the AFSC. I provided services from the photo intelligence derived from air-breathing and satellite recon platforms. I wanted to be Security Police (3P0X1), bu my recruiter told me I was too smart to be an SP. Never heard that before.

I cross-trained into Security Police two years later. Imagery Intel was a good job, lots of opportunity, but there was just no honor or glory in sitting in a SCIF all day looking at target photos.

Once upon a time I was a 31C (Radio Operator). I really enjoyed it, but I regret not learning more tactical radio stuff. I thought I would have the opportunity as a 25A Signal Officer, but the Signal Corps is much, MUCH more than radios. As such, I haven't touched a SINCGARS or HF radio since I was a Platoon Leader. I considered switching jobs, but with so many of my peers going functional area or branch transfer I figure if I stay the course I'll be the only 25A left and get promoted by default. Plus, I actually love having the opportunity to command.

13E, 13C and 13D Field Artillery Fire Direction Control. Had wanted to be a medic but they said they needed me in the FDC. Told me I would work indoors and my boots would never get muddy.....Haaaaah what a bunch of bolgney that was! I still liked it though. We had three battery's of 155mm and one Self Propelled 8" Battery. Everyone knew when we shot a TOT mission or at the end of training when we expended all ammo.

All of my specialties were in air operations. I carried 1055 (C-130 pilot) for the most years in it's various forms, 1055A (copilot), 1055B (pilot), N1055B (instructor pilot). I was also a pilot training instructor, primary jet (1355B) and a safety officer (X1355B). During the last part of my career, I was an air operations staff officer (1455). All of the AFSCs have changed and I didn't bother to keep up with what my old specialties have become. Maybe one of the younger USAF folks on RP can translate.

I'm a 35F30 Intelligence Analyst. I know, I am sometimes referred to as a powerpoint ranger. In pure honesty though I love my job. Because we have the ability to gather all the intel from all the other intel single source providers and possibly, by connecting the dots, come to an assessment that could alter the entire conflict. And the best part is when you come up with some stuff that actually saves lives. I'm not out there with my M4...but I'm using my other features to win the war, save lives, give my commanders the knowledge to make the right decisions for the troops on the ground, the troops in the air...and best of all, the right decision to bring our soldiers home in one piece.

When I first joined I was a corrosion control specialist. We basically were painters on aircraft and support equipment. We also inspected for and removed corrosion. Then Rivet Workforce happened and we combined with sheetmetal. That made us like Aircraft and support equipment body shop guys, and gals. I loved it. The hours sucked. Us and AGE were usually the last to leave the flightline. I can't say how many times my AFSC changed while I was in. When I left 15 years ago it was 2A773. I think I started as a 48331 or something like that.

55Bravo.... Ammunition Specialist. I loved it. Got to learn about all the different type of ammunition and weapons that our troops use use on a daily basis as well as ones that aren't used on a daily basis but are still being used.

During Advanced Individual Training we got to blow up stuff, hook things onto a helicopter, and drive different trucks, forklifts etc so we knew how to load and unload. Getting to my duty station was completely different, nco that was in charge of making sure incoming personnel got trained on all the equipment didn't like me, so I never got my military driver's license. Oh well! I still knew how to operate all of the equipment, plus I had all of my papers from school so he ended up coming to me asking me if I had papers from a certain class, if I did, he would let me out of Thursday training. So it worked out in my favor.

I went into the Army extremely uninformed, as far as the educational opportunities but I guess that the Army decided that I'd make a good radar Operator, so I got 17B, Field Artillery and Ground Surveillance Radar Operator and you know what? turns out I had an aptitude for it , did well in AIT and enjoyed the work, it was amazing how accurate we could be. This was before GPS, (I'm guessing that radar sets know exactly WHERE they're at as soon as it is set up, these days) so we had to plot our positions ourselves, enjoyed the survey and plotting part of the job also. After I got out of active duty I decided that I wanted to drive a tank, so I joined the Montana Army National Guard for 3 years and then another 3 years in armor with the Nevada Guard. got to drive one of our tanks in the Movie 'Megaforce'. the movie was pure CRAP but it was a LOT of fun even though most of the time we were waiting for the special effects people to get all their explosions set up.

97E - Interrogator (Linguist). I'm damn proud of my MOS! Hard to get in, harder to pass the courses. Makes for great conversation when some civilian asks what I did. They always ask about waterboarding (we didnt do that) and I always respond, "Do you want a demonstration?"

Lcpl USMC...Heavy Veh Oper/Mech. I would never want a diff job. This was my dream job at age 19. I went to Truck Driving & much school while I waited to ship out to boot camp. I wanted to make sure I got this job. When I was with my truck and in the motor pool I was free & in another world. My then husband couldn't hurt me. I miss it so much.

68W, healthcare specialist. Hands down, this was my dream job. I didn’t get to see the FORSCOM side of the MOS, but working as a hospital medic I got to help several thousand of my brothers and sisters in arms maintain a deployable status. I miss being in my old clinic, helping new soldiers get accustomed to their first duty station, since I worked in/out processing at Fort Hood. I also helped the SRP at Hood, so I spent a lot of my time helping FORSCOM. Sure, I didn’t get to do what I originally signed up for, deploying and helping overseas, but I miss doing what I could to help the Army maintain a healthy fighting force.

When I first entered the Air Force I wanted to go into some form of medicine but there were no slots open, so I opted for electronics, namely radio repair (304X4). Spent 4 years chasing electrons and realized that was not my calling. I decided to become a Military Training Instructor at Lackland AFB. I did enjoy teaching the trainees but the politics that surrounded it took away the joy. Then I attended a briefing held at Lackland when a team was recruiting for a career field I didn't even know existed, Survival Instructor (SERE). I talked to my wife, even called my parents and told them of a job that required I take people into the woods, teach them how to live off the land (hunt and fish) and tied it into my Boy Scout background (Eagle Scout and worked at a summer camp teaching wood craft, pioneering, ,etc). I went PCS to Fairchild AFB, went through instructor training and spent the remainder of my career doing something so enjoyable I would never call it work. Even after having worked almost 20 years in nursing (remember my initial desire was the medical field) I still tell folks that teaching Survival was the best job I have ever had.
