But I really enjoyed the ferocity and courage in Flags of our Fathers and the TV series Generation Kill. I wasn't in Vietnam, so I don't know if Mel Gibson's simply epic film on the Air Cav is true to form...but neither was I involved in Operation Red Wings...so I don't know if Mark Wahlberg captured life in a SEAL team correctly. I think some of the more "average Joe" films get hung up on that "one day" out of a thousand where the crap hit the fan...because let's face it, two hours of preventive maintenance and mid-watch isn't nearly as engaging as the Surface Navy taking on aliens. Still some hit home enough to strike a chord. Tora! Tora! Told a surprisingly balanced story, from both sides of Pearl Harbor, using actual Japanese actors (Hell, they can't even cast ethnicity correctly in today's Hollywood and that was 45 - 50 years ago!) and the effects were well done for the late 60's early 70's. The writing was great, the acting superb, and the directing flawless. Michael Bay should watch Tora! Tora! Tora! and then weep at that turd he filmed while I was living on Ford Island.
