What MOS can make a full military career and would translate well into a civilian career afterwards? Possibly 31B?

Yea it’s a good job but you will need to learn a lot and go to the academy when you’re back in civilian life. Looks good on a police resume but you might not be doing a lot of actual police work in the Army. I was in a field unit and did more infantry stuff when I was in. All depends on your unit.

Don't know if the army has them but anything with calibration/metrology or micro/miniature repair are good transferable skills

I was an MP from 08-13. Got out and took the POST exam for Missouri and got licensed as a law enforcement officer. Not every state allows that and some will require you to attend an academy again. I was lucky though and did a lot of road work while I was in, minus my one deployment doing PSD. Many people who become a MP will never get into a patrol vehicle sadly. Then again being a MP can open a lot of other doors such as being an instructor, doing protective services, traffic, SRT ext. Just depends on what unit you get put with and how hard you work toward what you want.

Your best bet is choosing an MOS that teaches you a trade skill (i.e. aircraft mechanics, small arms repair, any kind of maintenance and also anything IT related.

Go put in whatever MOS you may be interested in and get civilian job translations… or vice versa.

Of course 31B directly translates. I would caution anyone to not expect too much from civilian law enforcement agencies with respect to their views and acceptance of your military police training. Some are more while my personal experience has been a conveyed sense of its all well and good that you served your country but that doesn't mean it applies to our agency. You genuinely need to research where and with whom you want to invest your time and energy. Once you have identified those objectives you find you will be accepting of what your chosen agency/location has for requirements and what they take from your military background and training. Be your own best agent in selling yourself first and foremost. As well, there are myriad of other occupational specialties in the military that afford you an opportunity to translate into civilian jobs. Your education center and staff can be a great resource to utilize.
