What MOS could I get when transferring from IRR to Active Duty?

I've been talking to a recruiter about going from IRR to Active Duty Army. He made it sound like he didn't know what MOS would be available to me or if I'd stay an 88M. So I'm just wondering if anyone had any insight on where I could end up? If I'd have any choice what MOS I could go to? Or if how likely it'd be that I'd stay an 88M?

It will depend on what jobs are available and what you qualify for. When I went from the Reserves to Active Duty I had to take a new MOS because my old one wasn't open.

Depends on 2 things: your ASVAB scores (esp your GT score) and needs of the Army.
If you have a 110 GT or higher, and the Army needs the MOS you are looking for, you should be able to get it.
BTW, be prepared to go through reclassification (basically doing AIT again.)

To be brutally honest, if you are an E-4 or below, most likely you will keep your current MOS unless you are coming from a different branch

I’m prior service and was in the Marine Corps IRR when I went active duty Army cuz the corps wouldn’t take me back due to my tattoos. I got 42A but didn’t get a list of really any options. The Recruiter at the MEPs station called HRc and that’s what I was given

You will likely fall into the category of the needs of the Army. That is typically what I have found happens when Soldiers have to go back through MEPS. What I would recommend as an alternative if you are still undecided. I am a Army Reserve Career Counselor and one of the best kept secrets in the Army is the AGR (Army Guard Reserve) program. If your ultimate goal is Active Duty status and you would like to have a choice in your MOS, I recommend reaching out to a Career Counselor. But so long as you are in an IRR status with contract time remaining you will not have to go back through MEPS if you see a Career Counselor.
