When I arrived in Germany and was going to the base the first morning, I was stopped by police and was told the base was closed because of a terrorist attack. The next day when I got to the Base Weather Station, they asked what hotel was I at? I said, "The Parkbrau". He laughed and told me that was a beer. My point being that having to learn a foreign language can be daunting at first. My brother was Army and acted as a mediator when their was maneuver damage.

I'm not sure we need anymore MOS' but what I am sure of is that it's time to start putting Soldiers back into the positions that we filled with civilians. Goodbye contract police, we have MPs, good bye S1 civilians, we have 42As, and goodbye finance civilians we have 36Bs. This equally applies to the rest of the force who have been replaced by the civilians as well.

IDK what MOS they fell under, but anything that has been replaced by contractors! I keep hearing about how we are scaling down in size to pre-WWII troop levels, but look at how many contractors we have now. How many contractors stormed the beaches of Normandy to serve us chow, do our laundry, guard our outposts, etc.? I feel like any Army job that is done by contractors, especially in a deployed environment, should be done by Soldiers.

The current U.S. Army has these strong capable soldiers working feverishly day and night within her beloved ranks...we just don't have a specific MOS nomenclature for them.

350V/35V - Collection Manager. And, like the 35L, you have to be an NCO to hold the MOS. Right now all we have is the ASI Q7 (I am the only green suiter instructor for the course), and the Soldiers have to be an NCO minimum. If we have an entirely seperate MOS, it would be easier to place them into the right positions instead of randomly selecting someone to fill that position that has no clue how to really do the job.

I can remember when i was a recruiter (1982-1985) when asked what jobs we had in the Army, the standard reply was, "Every job you see in civilian life with the exception of barbers, cosmetologist, farmers, and models." I can also remember while growing up as a dependent and the early years of my own career we a club manager MOS for the Enlisted, NCO and Officer clubs. We had a special services MOS that took care of the gyms, served as lifeguards at the post pools, and other post recreation services. When you saw stuff being constructed on post, you saw a lot of soldiers with construction MOSs doing the work. We used to have a lot more soldiers working as plumbers, electricians, carpenters, heavy equipment operators, etc. I can remember when you never saw a civilian working in the dining facility. I can remember when it was rare seeing civilians working at post finance and personnel. When I was a kid, the PX manager and assistant manager was an MOS. When I went through basic training, it was soldiers who were issuing us our uniforms and TA-50, not civilians.

We've become too dependent upon contractors today.

If we continue to "nation build and occupy" in future wars we should have a Business/Agribusiness Consultants to help build local economies. Might actually build real loyalty among locals if they see that they can actually better their lives working with us.
