What process is involved in transferring from Air National Guard to active duty Air Force?

I have contacted a few recruiters but have been told they cannot help me. What can I do to find availability within active duty units? Is there anything I can do to help myself before going to another recruiter?

Availability is a National Guard concept, the Active Duty uses strengths of the MOS. It's very possible that your branch simply does not need your MOS on Active Duty. The AF is notoriously obtuse when it comes to accessing prior service into Active Duty. I suggest finding a new branch or a new MOS to access into Active Duty on

I tried doing the same thing in 2010 as a Senior Airman and the answers were the same. I went as far as taking the AFOQT (our unit had officer slots available that I was pursuing) to try a different approach to going AD and that too was a no go. I have an idea worth looking at below.

I've been out since 2016, but you may want to check out the AFPC website to see what IMA tours are available (going AD for a specified period of time).

The active-duty AF doesn't recruit by units. They recruit specialties or a set knowledge, skills and abilities that qualifies for the specialties they need. And then you would enter that pool of specialties available for all units to tap from. So any recruiter worth their salt would ask probing questions about your experience, motivation and ASVAB scores (if they even call it "ASVAB" anymore).

Do a voluntary title 10 tour and then seek to make it a permanent transfer.

Look at critical AFSCs and offer to cross-train into one of them. You will gain active duty status that way.
