COL Michael Freeman 4361161

A question for Federal Civilian employees who had prior Reserve service, or someone who might be a SME (all others can skip this now):
The OPM guidelines for calculating your Service Computation Date say to include ALL active duty, including Active Duty for Training. For those who served on active duty for more than 90(I think) days, a DD-214 would be issued for that time period. Traditional Active Duty service members would get one DD-214 for the entire period of their service.
For those of us who served in the Reserve program, the only time we received a DD-214 was for active duty over 90 days that was not a school. I deployed twice and have two DD-214s to show for it.
In the Army Reserve, there were different classifications of “Active Duty” such as Annual Training (AT), Active Duty for Training (ADT) and Active duty for Special Work (ADSW). All of these should count toward prior service when calculating the Service Computation Date for a civilian employee. We know that “drills” are considered Inactive Duty for Training (IDT) and do not count towards prior service.
All the employee has to do is show proof. A DD-214 is clearly proof. The problem with this is that there is no central repository that contains proof of all of these types of active duty.

My question: If this applies to you, what proof did you provide to DFAS, other than the DD-214?

COL(Ret) Mike Freeman What proof did you provide to DFAS of active duty service in the Reserves? 2019-02-12T09:28:47-05:00 COL Michael Freeman 4361161

A question for Federal Civilian employees who had prior Reserve service, or someone who might be a SME (all others can skip this now):
The OPM guidelines for calculating your Service Computation Date say to include ALL active duty, including Active Duty for Training. AT orders will also work, LES's, and there is even a printout that you can get from DFAS showing exactly which days you were paid as AD if it's too far back for an LES copy.
They only retain LES's for so many years. I never understood why DFAS makes you acquire proof of your service FROM them in order to prove your service TO them. In theory, a list of acceptable documents can be found on page 55 of the following OPM document: https://www.opm.gov/retirement-services/publications-forms/csrsfers-handbook/c023.pdf

Also note that Chap 22 covers creditable service, and clearly states that AT time is eligible. Good luck and let me know if it goes through.

c023.pdf

üyD8ðýr0ôçÏ gB|ÏÐBhG1óKèÇ B]»2nÖÃr*]úU%µ\ÝÆo/2Í7hitmò!|nÔJå~Cîu|,Âj·§e-OëÚífÓ»9ØyXÚ8,,ªg)`Hý Õ!ñ1@r\8âu.5ÌØZ§1å`DËÁùXXAöD¡Û @qº@ïoxzÈgmJ'«ZvÖZÀyQè(ÆmRrRIi\vîãDÙ4/DæHD0l5äöN%§)4ß$ÏFÍÉ`rD$ªÖsÏ¿u^C^ÉTêxS8WYºcI8G·@WRÅkR0Æ1Â?_UNh)iÄfPán6Ö"-Ý¡]%"çD`A;MT¿õ7|PY%=ßÅuëlM*gùå »,ª ç=`ÛñãåGSêõªÍÖ*Ù@frað»øvFM:8/zлgÜ*Wê p$oþÔqªþ3!^aDÖB4-"EjQ8ÞÜzÒH)ºäËã\ý¡Àmó§L«ü͵h]Ö}¡#-þ·æ&(ÅßZDó2Nu¶Mu§¡ëSGl»pmçÉôÛrJÚáêÊÃuÐUaúY'Î6*ÿÂÂïpa1eÕEÊòë Êe 7è&^Øþ.ñÌpàÄBÊZÈJUñåæë8ï...

Response by COL Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 14 at 2019 5:54 AM 2019-02-14T05:54:11-05:00 2019-02-14T05:54:11-05:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 4408668

email me, I can assist.
[login to see] Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 28 at 2019 11:14 AM 2019-02-28T11:14:17-05:00 2019-02-28T11:14:17-05:00 2019-02-12T09:28:47-05:00
