I was recently selected for a direct commission after serving x2 yrs Active Duty as a commissioned officer, and 3 yrs, 9 mo as an enlisted SM in the National Guard. I am trying to determine the timeline of events and what rank I may receive.

Glad to help. Forgot to add.....There will be a worksheet created during the commissioning process which calculates your credit. Be sure to review it very, very carefully as soon as your POC can get it to you.. Not only does it determine your rank, it is my understanding that it also determines where you are in the pipeline for promotion. I found out years later that I missed that I should have been granted one more year. If my understanding is correct, that, in turn, pushed my in the zone look for 06 back one year.

Hi Brooke. I believe you’ll receive 6 months credit toward TIG for every 1 year of commissioned time served. Likewise, your AD time will count toward your overall TIS pay. Your NG time will add up all the days you spent activated, and add that to your overall TIS for pay purposes. You’ll need about 18 months constructive credit for 1LT, unless you already have a Masters in dietetics, or related. In that case, you’ll be closer to CPT, with less wait time. Did you already get your dates for DCC and BOLC? I’m assuming you won’t need to attend DCC, since you already did an initial entry program (ROTC, OCS, West Point, etc).

1LT (Join to see) - With all these variables, you need to get the answer from branch.

MAJ Byron Oyler Sir, thank you for your feedback. Might just have to wait this one out. I was hoping someone had experienced something similar.

1LT (Join to see) - Even if someone has experience or presents you a reg, your case is so unique that only someone that has made decisions in cases like yours can really give you a good answer. How much constructive credit do you get from being a dietician on the civilian side verses how long have you been a 1LT? I can quote policy all day long but until someone who actually gets to make these decisions comments, it is wrong to give you even a guess.

MAJ Byron Oyler Sir, I understand. It is kind of a confusing situation. I’m excited for the opportunity, regardless of the rank.

It's going to depend on what the MC wants to do. There are three branches that seem to have their own promotion system...MC, CH, and JA. Last year I had a 68 series NCO direct commission as a 1LT. You shouldn't have to do another BOLC since you've already completed one. You're doing a branch transfer.
