My drive comes from wanting to be a positive role model for my kids and to be a strong and dedicated husband for my wife. I owe it to them to strive to be successful for all of the sacrifices that they have made for me to have this wonderful career.

My Faith! I believe my purpose on earth comes from God - I believe He put me here for a reason, and I believe He gives me "opportunities" to help others. So I actively seek out those opportunities and act accordingly!

My faith in God motivates me and He sustains me throughout the day, week, month and year COL Mikel J. Burroughs. Every day I submit my plans to the Lord and go about my daily routine unless He changes my plans. Usually the changes come through circumstances but sometimes He lets me know by speaking to my spirit that I need to go somewhere, or pray for somebody, etc.

My customers. Every day I try to do the best job I can on every horse I work on. I treat each one just like it was mine. After so many years, I am still leaning new things. The best thing for me is when a horse is presented to me, dead lame and after I am finished, the horse walks out not lame. For me this is what keeps me going every day at work.

Just love waking up free everyday in a country that I helped to protect......who could ask for anything better....I know a lot of folks here are still trying to find themselves and establish a career....I was blessed and found mine early and finished it by the time I was in my 40s.....the life a military retiree is different from others...I don't need to be in charge anymore...i've got nothing to prove to anyone...my goals include spending as much time as possible with my family....make enough money to pay for my toys...and my most immediate goal for tomorrow is get Hot Tub Water changed.....#1stworldproblems#semiretiredlifeisgreat

What inspires me lately is my daughter is moving back home to finish out the rest of her college. With PCS assignments and kids going all different directions, finally my family will all be back together.

My motivation comes from being retired and waking up thinking about what can I do today to make someone else have a smile. I'm very quite here at home, but when I go to church, the VA, like today, and am around my family, I'm known for silly jokes but, the ones who have to endure my jokes or funny conversation, do smile even if they think I'm a nerd. I talk to God everyday asking him to forgive my sins and make me a better Christian. When I veer off the path, as many of us do, I say a prayer to keep me on the right track. I know if I mess up, praying to God makes me feel better.

My mother inspires me ... shortened version. At the age of 86 and suffering through the final stages of cancer she was still submitting college course work to earn a degree in paralegal studies, just to keep busy. My mother was a nurse who retired only at her doctor's insistence at the age of 75.

Excellent questions COL Mikel J. Burroughs! I am a rather simple fella, as such there is nothing complex about my motivations each day, week, or year. My family above all else motivates me to work hard and be the best person that I can be. I consider myself very blessed to have the support structure that I have, they have stood by me throughout all of the good and tough times in my life. If my kids are proud of what I accomplish, and strive to be successful because of the example I have set....I have achieved great things.

My job is also very inspiring to me, I could not have picked a better profession. Each day I get the privilege of training and mentoring junior aviators. I consider my job more of a calling, and take the charge of contributing to the future of Army aviation very serious. In addition, I get to fly the badest helicopter on the planet and in very demanding missions and environments.....what is not to like!

COL Mikel J. Burroughs, great discussion, brother! There are some truly inspiring responses posted here. Mine may be a little unique, but I am certain that there will be some redundancy.

My number one driver is the fear of failure. No one wants to be a loser, and I am no exception. Failing to please God would be to my detriment...not His...so I take that very seriously. I am far from perfect, however, so I take time daily to be thankful for the things that I have done right - and to ask forgiveness for the things that I have done wrong. It doesn't remove my struggles, but I don't feel as bad after a good conversation with the Lord.

I don't think anything makes me excited daily. However, helping people gives me an immense amount of satisfaction, so I would count selflessness as an inspiration.

My inspiring goal for 2016 is a closer walk with the Lord, be it a little or a lot. Progress is progress, and realistically speaking, I don't know what my future holds, so it is good to know Who does.

Individuals that inspire me are my family - I would be remiss to fail them, so that's definitely a fire under my "Fourth Point of Contact!!"

My motivation comes from wanting to be bigger faster and stronger as I get older, not slower, fatter and smaller.
The weights motivate me. They weights let you know where your body stands.

God motivates me to keep going and the fear of dieing and going to hell. Plus the way I think and not ready to just give up and quit. I'm still out there trying to prove a point to a lot of these younger adults. No matter what you are going thru someone has it worse. If I can keep doing things im not supposed to doing like working and other activities, they have no excuse not to put there best into what ever they do.

My motivation stems from two aspects: One, what I endured as a child and two, being raised by a single Mother.

I went through a lot as a child, most of which I will not share on this site however, being told that I "couldn't" or "wouldn't" succeed in certain aspects made me strive to achieve what I want most out of my life. Enlisting in the Military immediately after High School and turning 18 in Basic Training taught me most of what I learned today. Also, my Mother being my support system and raising her four kids (including myself) on her own has taught me that even if you don't believe you have done right, look at where you are now and what you have been through. All you can do is learn from your mistakes and the lessons each taught you.

If I want to change something about myself, for example, the Army's regulations on weight standards are ridiculous, I do it. They consider me to be overweight and yet, I am in a great physical condition. I basically have to pep talk myself each day to go to the gym and when I am at the gym, motivate myself to do more than the week prior. Regardless of it being a higher repetition or a heavier weight. I believe that everyone has the mentality to strive for excellence and achieve each goal they set out for. The initial push is the hardest but once we get into the stride of things, we can accomplish great things.

The fact I got to get up and take care of my customers. I work for myself. Some days I really don't feel like getting out and doing it. But then I look at the fact I have a wife, place, animals and if I don't get out and do it, then it won't get done. So I get up, make the cup of coffee, do my morning routine and get to work. Usually after I'm to my first place, I'm kicked in and away it goes. It's all about that life long thing my Dad taught me when I was knee high to a grasshopper - You got to learn how to work!

My faith in God gives me the drive to live, as well as my devoted wife who gives me strength in times when the PTSD acts up. SHe has been through a lot with me and she stays by my side. My God and my wife are my rock and strength. My current goal is to get this job through my State's Department of Veteran Affairs to help my fellow veterans get the help and benefits that they need and deserve.

I have 2 goals this year number one is to spend at least one week a month fishing. The second goal is a first place medal for long range shooting to go with the second place medals . I am a firm believer that the impossible just takes a little longer so the sooner you get started the sooner it will get done.

I get a lot of my motivation from my little girls. Seeing their smiles is one of the best gifts in life.

Well in regards to goals, I just purchased my first home a couple months ago. I was originally planning on purchasing a 2nd vehicle, but I needed a roof over my head more.
