What really pushes your patience when leading soldiers?

This should be interesting. I would really like to know what some of your ''Pet Peeves" are when leading your troops. I'm a very patient person in general and known to have a "long fuze." However, certain behaviors such as a crap attitude, dirty ass barracks room, laziness, and plain out disrespect really top my list of times when I had to control myself and ''attempt'' to remain professional to the best of my ability.

Leaders who don't mentor, and those who find simple coordination difficult, like opening the motor pool gates.

Crap attitude and dirty ass barracks room. when I was a 1st Sgt the bks were all mine. I would get case of the ass over the rooms especially when the IG was there. Bu I had a CO that believed otherwise and wasn't much help when it came to the barracks. And he would not listen to his senior NCO's. I got by the inspections and passed the OR inspection. But one thing I told him months before he didn't listen and he was doing some fast correcting.

The big one for me is timeliness. If an airman can't grasp what effect being late, either to duty or with a tasker, has on other members in the unit, they are showing that they are selfish. That just doesn't fly with me. I'm not talking about the airman who occasionally oversleeps, or busts a deadline, I'm talking about the frequent abusers.

When I was still in the Army, the one thing that I really hated was when Soldiers would ask for help or guidance and then refuse to use it. What made this even more annoying is when it would cause the little idiots to complain to someone above me that the situation or what-have-you went wrong or, even worse, when their conduct or failure negatively affected me. Case and point, I once had a Soldier who messed up right after turning 21 and got himself a DUI. He was a great Soldier and seemed to understand that he had messed up and legitimately wanted to correct himself. I stuck my neck out for him because it was the only bad thing that he had ever done. Fast forward a few months and he got another DUI and the command, from the Brigade down, all had it out for the lowly E-5 who vouched for the idiot private... Lessons learned...

Good question!
Late to PT and late to work pissed me off more than most anything. Having the 1st Sgt call about unpaid bills and messy rooms ranked right up there. I have a list pet peeves but that covers the big crap!

Pretty much just plain disrespect. What I mean by disrespect is by not showing up on time which by the way, I got an ear full out of that one from my 1SG at the time. That shows disrespect to me, and others in the platoon that were there on time. Every now and then I get it, it happens, but when it happens once or twice a week, that tells me you just straight up don't care. Dirty living conditions is the other, it drove me insane. I'm pretty patient for the most part when I dealt with Soldiers situations, but when it is a continuous pattern, I would blow up.

I'm impatient. When I put something out, I expect it done in the time given. Second is phones...its probably my biggest pet peeve when Soldiers do not respond to messages or answer calls...My third is being on time for work.

I never had any issues with my subordinates that tried my patience. The biggest thing was when my leaders wanted to assert themselves in matters that were in my lane.

Like the SMA said, if you have to constantly say you are in charge. You are not in charge.
