What regulation covers MUTAs (Multiple Unit Training Assembly). I'm at 46 and have to drill 3 days this weekend. Do you only get paid for 48?

Wouldn't let me finish, but can they force you to do all 3 days and not pay you? yes i know they go towards retirement points but I'm not worried about retirement points since i have 8 years AD.

Your unit will have to put you on orders or use a RMA or you can drill for points. They can't have you on duty without one of those chooses if you got hurt or worse the unit would be in deep sh$t

48 is the minimum, not maximum. There is no statute or official (Service-level) policy that limits you to 48. Check with your S1 to ensure you will be drilling for pay and not just points - they are the ones to control that.

I have nothing at all to contribute to this thread, but I am enthralled with the knowledge there is a term known as Muta....I feel deprived having not known and used this word or acronym in my many years of service... ...for those of us unwashed and uneducated.....What the heck is a Muta?
I dont know what it is, but I want one darn it...

Just to clarify, a Muta stands for multiple UTAs UTA as stated is Unit Training Assembly.

I had several MUTA 5s but I don't remember anything more that that.

yes only get paid for 48 total (USAR PAM 37-1), but there are other ways to pay you if the funds are available. ATA or RMA days can be used to pay you or you can just do the one day for points only.

I've done a MUTA 10 this year with my unit. I got paid for all 5 days and was credited for 10 UTAs...I'm in an instructor unit and we are spread across the country so our AT (which covers the whole summer in 2 week increments) doesn't give us time to assemble as a unit

My first reaction was this possibly couldn't happen as Unit YTC's are closely monitored. If there's a couple of MUTA-5's on the YTC, there's gotta be a MUTA-2. 48 is the magic number. Then I spotted you are a DS. We used to use all kinds of bookkeeping tricks to help you guys make mission. Orders for a few days or even a single day are not uncommon in the Reserves. Doing Duty for "God and Country" is admirable but your SGLI Sweepstakes entry along with a possible L.O.D. could be in jeopardy. An ATA or an RMA can cover you not only for pay but for a potential accident. Talk to the S-1 (or the S-3) that cuts orders. There should be funds left in the Fiscal Year to get you right. Or take the day off, you deserve it.

If your unit has the budget for it, you will get paid for every MUTA you attend. I have had as many as 60 in a year (busy year).

You have to drill for three days, you get paid, unless you fail to sign in, show up or what ever. There are X number of drill a year. Some times you will do a 3 day (MUTA 6).

3-9. Inactive duty training periods and assemblies
a. All Federally recognized ARNG units will conduct at least 48 Unit Training Assemblies (UTAs) each fiscal
year in a paid Inactive Duty Training (IDT) status except:
(1) Units newly Federally recognized and units returned to State control from a period of active duty during
the fiscal year will participate in a proportionate share of the required assemblies based on the number of weeks the
unit has held Federal recognition or has been under State control during the fiscal year.
(2) The CNGB may authorize a unit to conduct fewer than the minimum number of training assemblies.
Units requiring such authority will submit requests and justification through command channels to Operations
Division (NGB-ARO).
b. Individuals will only participate in and be paid for 48 paid UTAs during each FY except when, due to
reassignment or attachment, attendance at all ordered assemblies results in the individual attending 52 assemblies.
Regardless of the number of times the individual is reassigned or attached (including releases from an assignment or
attachment); only 52 paid UTAs are authorized.

If anyone actually knows the exact regulation that governs this, and/or how it has been changed and what order, alaract, or publication...etc... then I would love to see it. I frequently keep hearing the tale about how commanders can hold us until midnight of that night and yet we are still only getting paid for UTA's which are 4 hour blocks of training... so, after the 8 hours are up and we are still being kept at drill, why are we not getting paid for our time? If we are on orders then yes, the commander can keep us until midnight of the last day or orders...but a MUTA only covers 8 hours, so this misconception that we can be held until midnight of the last day of drill doesn't seem to hold with logic.
